Chapter 5

Suddenly, they hear howls & are stunned to see a pack of wolves surrounding the cottage. David hurriedly climbs down & helps Jeannette to climb down too. They make a run for the door & bolt it (David even sonics it for safety!), as the wolves pound against the door & windows. Grandma & the kids are woken up by the noise. Suddenly, the wolves break the windows & enter! They surround them. "Gran,gimme the keys to the weapons closet!" Jeannette demands. Grandma fumbles with a bunch of keys hanging from her apron. Jeannette snatches them & runs towards her bedroom, while David distracts the wolves. They defend themselves with furniture, vases, utensils, etc. A wolf bites & grips onto grandma's apron, but she knocks it out with a skillet! "That's my best apron, u foolish creature!" she yells. Strong Rory hurls chairs, while brave Rose tosses grandma's china at 'em. Ellie uses grandma's cane to defend herself. A wolf gets ready to pounce on David, when it's shot by Jeannette! She hands him a gun too & they go on a shooting spree! Finally, they finish off all the wolves. "That's a lot of wolf stew! Enough to last us a whole year!" Jeannette exclaims, as her stomach growls. "U're hurt!" David stares at Jeannette's bleeding leg. "I'll be fine." she replies, struggling to stand. "U need to rest, dear. I'll get the medical kit." Grandma suggests. David carries her to her bedroom. He tucks her into bed. "David! It's almost noon! We've to leave!" Ellie calls out. "Sure u'll be fine?" he asks Jeannette , pushing her hair off her face. "Yup. Sure u don't wanna take some wolves home with u to stew?" she asks, holding his hand. "No, thanks! I've had enough wolf stew!" he replies, frightfully. "I'm gonna miss u!" she confesses, hugging him. "I'll visit u again someday!" he promises. She moves closer to kiss him & he feels tempted to do the same. "D'you guys have some unresolved feelings to take care of before we leave? 'Coz if u do... hurry up!" Ellie interrupts them. "Should we kiss?" Jeannette asks, nervously. "It's just a crush, right? & we're just friends, right? We don't love each other, do we?" David replies. "What if we fall in love after we kiss?" she asks, still doubtful. "Aww,no...I don't think 2 people fall in love after one kiss!" he assures in his sexy Scottish accent, rolling his eyes. "We should kiss!" she finally declares, pulling him closer & pushing her lips against his, her hands messing up his already ruffled up hair! He's taken aback & keeps his hands on her cheeks. They kiss for the longest time, until Ellie yells- "gross!" "I don't think I'd ever fall for u, u horrible kisser!" a disappointed Jeannette declares. "I'm offended by that, but I'm relieved that u didn't fall for me! Imagine Georgia's reaction if she'd found out that I'd eloped with Red Riding Hood!" David jokes. "Well, now that we've got that outta my system, I guess I'll see u soon, friend?" she bids farewell. After a friendly handshake & a warm group hug, David & the kids head home with a story to tell & a selfie as proof of their adventure!
