Prologue

Her jet black hair trailed behind her through the dark, wet night. She followed the large man up to her new school along with a group of thirty or so other eleven year olds. They had to rush through the large puddles with their stuppy, pre-pubescent, legs to keep up with the giant. She was nervous. She knew she would be fine as long as she was a Slytherin like the rest of her pureblood family. She hated to disappoint her parent as she deeply respected them.

The giant man came to a halt in front of a stern looking woman. She waited a moment, taking them all in. She waited a moment longer for them all to group together a bit tighter. She noticed her cousin beside her. They locked hands together as they heard the woman speech.

"Welcome to Hogwarts. This castle will be your home for the remainder of your magical education.  am professor Mcgonagall. In a moment I will lead you through those doors and you will be sorted into one of four different houses. Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin. Your house will determine who you will take classes with, who you will dorm with, and, most likely, fe friends with." A short knock came from the other side of the large wooden door behind the professor. She smiled just a bit. "It's time."

She pushed the doors and led them through a small ante-chamber into a much, much, larger hall with four tables neatly aligned parallel to each other. Each held a banner of a certain colour hanging above. Professor Mcgonagall addressed them once more.

"When I call your name, please sit on the stool. I will place the sorting hat upon your head and this will determine your house for your Hogwarts career." She help up a ratty old hat that had patched and split seams. The girl was doubtful that this hat was reliable enough to place her in the right house but none the less she went along with it.

"Black, Narcissisa"  Mcgonagall called out. The girl's cousin broke away from her and sat  on the small stool. Nervousness was evident on her face. A moment went by, two moments, three. Worry and anxiety building on young Narcissa's face. Until finally,

"SLYTHERIN" the hat yelled from one of it's split seams. Narcissa let out a sigh as a huge smile broke out on her face. She rushed her small body over to the table with a green banner toward her sisters waiting to congratulate her. Their cousin was called up next.

"Black, Persephone."

She walked up to the stool, her long black hair trailed behind her. She sat down. The hat was placed in her head. The dialogue from the hat filled her brain.

You are much like your cousin. It told her. You would do well in a great many places.

Persephone felt offended by this. 'I belong in Slytherin.' she thought back stubbornly.

"You would do well in Ravenclaw." The hat insisted

'No' she thought again stubbornly 'I'm a Slytherin, like my cousins and my parents and aunts and uncles and my brothers will be too,"

"Very well," the hat conceded "You will be-

"SLYTHERIN" A second loud cheer erupted from the Slytherin table. Persephone beamed with pride as she made her way to her extended family.

"Bella! You were right!" She exclaimed to her cousin. "I'm a Slytherin just like you."

"I'm sure your parent are proud." Bella's sister, Andromeda said "I will write to them for you, if you want."

"Thanks 'Dromeda." Persephone smiled at the three sisters. Andromeda, the oldest, in her seventh, and final, year; Bellatrix, the middle child, in her third year; and Narcissa, the youngest, in her first year. Just like Persephone.

She had a good feeling about her years at Hogwarts. She couldn't wait to see what came up next.

*******

Exactly a year later, Andromeda had graduated and her brother came to Hogwarts. He may not share the same views as her or their parents, but surely he wouldn't be different enough to be separated into a different house. Right?

She couldn't have been more wrong.

When Professor Mcgonagall called out "Black, Sirius", he was sorted into Gryffindor. Bella had been furious, going so far as to calling him a 'muggle loving blood traitor.'

"Don't be so melodramatic, Bella. There are purebloods in Gryffindor. I don't expect for him to go curling up next to mudbloods" Persephone defended her younger brother.

"I saw him spending time with that Potter boy, technically our cousin in some way" Cissy didn't like Sirius all too much but she was always up to defend Persephone.

She couldn't have been more wrong.

*******

One more year and Persephone welcomed her youngest brother to Hogwarts.

"Black, Regulus." was called to be sorted and was placed in Slytherin. Persephone couldn't deny that she was relieved. Sirius had cause much trouble with their parents and was bordering on a blood traitor, just like Bella had predicted. She had many screaming matches with him about being a let down. Sirius had retaliated with accusing Persephone of being a psychotic racist.

Regulus was the perfect younger brother. He doted on Bella, Cissy, and Persephone. He would do whatever they asked and they loved it.
