A Damsel’s Heart and A Hero’s Fate
Aurelia’s POV
Who am I? This question repeated constantly on my mind. For the millionth, trillionth time since last night, Sir Bryan’s words replayed on my head. For whatever reasons my father – no, the king – declared that I am his daughter, I wonder.
Knock, knock
“Princ- Aurelia, for all that’s holy, stop pacing around the room. It’s unladylike and it makes me dizzy.” Maylinne said while giving me a very unappreciative look. “Why don’t you sit down and drink the tea I’ve prepared? It’s your favorite today, Earl Grey and caramel scone.”
Her offer should be irresistible if my mood was normal but now all of them seemed insignificant. “No May. I don’t feel like eating. You may leave now. I’ll call you if I need anything.” With those words out of my mouth, I focused on analyzing the whole situation again. Where have Daniel vanished when I need him, I wondered. “Wait May! Ask the Earl of Wiltshire to meet me in the royal garden as soon as possible.”
“Will you meet him alone like before?” Before I could give her a reply, she continued, “The rumor is spreading Aurelia. You must be chaperoned by your brother at the very least. A princess should not behave like what you did and-“
“Enough!” I snapped and immediately regretted it. It seemed like my tone was too harsh because May looked at me with pained expression before leaving. A lot of things had happened but it does not mean that I could just lash out at random people moreover, my friend, I scolded myself.
Sighing, I decided to take a lengthy stroll while waiting for him. Much to my dismay, the whole kingdom was busy in preparing for war - which should not have even happen – if I may add. Battalion of soldiers and royal guards were seeing for the preparation. Sir Bryan had also increased the training. The palace was filled with sounds but it was not the sound I hoped for. It was the sound of upcoming terror and bloodshed which I could do nothing but watch, I admitted sadly to myself.
I did not know for how long I had been waiting in the royal garden but with no sign of Daniel till now. He will never leave me, I reinforced my weak mental. The day had surrendered to the night, sun replaced by the moon but my only company was the pearly moon and sparkling stars. A lonely day I did not expect.
“Aura” called a male voice. I turned my head and hoped to see the man that I gave my heart to. Of course not, my mind sounded when I saw my brother. Trying to hide my disappointment to my best, I greeted him, “Hello brother. Aren’t you busy preparing for a massacre?”
“Hey, chill out girl, it wasn’t my decision and we are just trying to defend our kingdom and not a massacre.” defended my brother. He did not look pleased with my greeting and I did not expect him to be. Hah, I sighed. Whatever, without any word, I went back to my room leaving my brother.
It was not as if I did not understand the cause but it just did not sit well with me. It was just too unusual. Why would a kingdom which had been neutral suddenly declare war on us and the reason was about losing their prince? They should have protected the heir to the throne better, I huffed. Moreover, the prince being here was a mystery itself. Why was his presence not notified to Vanias’ royal family? Even if we did detain the prince here, we would at least declare about it. Who would want to capture a prince without asking anything from his kingdom?
Without me knowing, my brother had been chasing after me. His footsteps were quite silent despite the heavy armor he wore or maybe I was just too preoccupied. “Aura, wait! I did not search for you to be dismissed just like that.” When I kept on walking, he grabbed my arm with an iron grip and yanked me so that I was facing him. It hurt but with years of harsh training with Sir Bryan, this was nothing.
