A History That No One Knows

Third person's POV

Everyone’s attention was directly focused on Quinton. It was strange but none of them had known the details of this story, even Dominique and Aurelia as the King’s children. Quinton prepared tea for them and started his story.

All of it started when the ruler before King Tyreus, King William lost his wife. King William had been a most benevolent ruler the kingdom had ever met. He succeeded his father marvelously. The Kingdom had flourished well in his rule. However, everything changed when Queen Isabella died. His heart turned bitter and he started to ignore his own people and every person who spoke up to him will be killed cruelly as to warn others not to do that.

Soon, other kingdoms heard the news and decided to invade our kingdom but the king did nothing to protect it. Natural disasters were also rampaging everywhere. Floods made the production of crops reduced significantly and there was no food for the people to eat. The nobles and ministers did nothing to help their people and they looked the gate to their estates tightly.

A considerable amount of people died either out of starvation or because they defied the king. Thieves appeared everywhere and children aged o more than fifteen had to sell their body for food. The kingdom was dying and nothing, no one could prevent it.

One day, there was an ex-lieutenant named Tyreus who had decided to save this kingdom at that time. He rallied a lot of commoners and nobles alike who wanted a change. It was an easy battle but a gruesome aftermath. None of the soldiers or generals wanted to help their king. They had had enough so they gave their support to the courageous ex-lieutenant.

Within a month, they had conquered the palace. Tyreus immediately ordered his troops to kill all the ministers and nobles who had refused the people. It was a gruesome sight. Although Tyreus did not give the order to kill the king, his underling killed him.

After that, Tyreus became the king and he established a strong foundation of rules and punishments. He ruled with iron fists. He demanded that people was to be put first before nobles and ministers. He said that without his people, there will be no kingdom. He was a strict ruler and punished those who deserved it without mercy. He was also a kind and compassionate ruler as he always thought of his people before himself.

Until now, no one had uttered a single bad thing about him. His name is remembered by the old and taught to the young. He is a man who had completed his conquest at the age of thirty. He is what makes a legend…

Dominique and Aurelia held a new kind of respect towards their father. Not only respecting him as their father but they was also respecting him as a magnificent ruler. However, they did wonder why their father did not tell them about the history of his conquest.

“Quinton, how do you know about all of this?” asked Daniel who had been listening intently to his story. Quinton laughed merrily as he recalled his past, “I was the sword maker in King Tyreus’ army. I had retired when he completed his conquest as I longed for a peaceful live in the outskirts.”

Every one of them stilled when they heard Quinton’s answer. A heart whelming laugh brought all of them back again. “Why do you not believe the word of this ole’ man?” asked Quinton between his laughs.

Everyone except Luke was asking Quinton about his wondrous experience during his service in King Tyreus’ army. Luke was baffled when he heard this story. He had the strength to keep on living with the vision to kill King Tyreus. However, knowing the real history behind King Tyreus usurping the throne made him think twice. He was trapped in a tug of war in his own consciousness, to kill Tyreus or not.
