Q1. What inspired you to write your first book?

A. As a child back before TV, there was nothing to do for entertainment but read books, so I went to the library and checked them out on a regular basis. Back then you could go to the movies, but I really loved reading. I read mostly Science fiction and Westerns, but eventually I explored non-fiction, especially history and science. I really don't know why I started writing. I did poorly in English and Literature. I guess it's because I have a vivid imagination and an insatiable curiosity and at some point I thought that I needed to express myself.

Q2. What is your favorite quote?

A. It's from Albert Einstein: "Politics is more difficult than physics." That caught me as being odd, but then again, politics boiled into war during Einstein's career. It's ironic that he would say something like that. Physics for him must have been a cakewalk.

3Q. Why do you write?

A. The main reason that I write is to allow all of these crazy ideas in my head to escape to the light of day. I joined Wattpad because of my grandson. I wanted to encourage him to write and for some reason that's what I've been doing here on Wattpad--encouraging young people to write. I have time to write now that I'm retired and it helps keep my mind from slipping into disuse.

Writing is hard for me. I don't have any trouble coming up with ideas, but I find reducing them to words is excruciatingly hard work. A lot of people here on Wattpad have the opposite problem. They end up having writer's block. I think I've written in the neighborhood of 3-4 million words. It's just something that I like to do now. I've published three novels through Smashwords, but they haven't done that well. The reality is that everyone is publishing e-books now and it's hard to get noticed. Romance seems to be the genre that's most popular. My daughter urged me to write a romance novel, but it turned out to be more of s spoof. That seems to be the nature of everything I write. It becomes satire. I guess I see subtle humor in life.

Q4. What is the hardest part of writing for me?A. I find the hardest part is putting my thoughts into words in a concise manner. I have trouble with simple things like grammar and spelling. As I said, I don't have trouble coming up with ideas for stories or non-fiction. Most people don't realize that it's easy to make stupid mistakes, especially with word processors that provide both spelling and grammar error correction. Sometimes the word is spelled correctly but isn't the word I wanted. Also, the grammar correction assumes that you're writing prose, not fiction, which often has conversation that is not grammatically correct. My other problem is remembering things that I already wrote. I've always had problems with memory, but I must admit that writing is helping me overcome that problem.

Q5. Where do you get your inspiration?

A. Reading the great Science Fiction authors like Isaac Asimov, Orson Scott Card, Robert Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Jules Verne, Michael Crichton, and H. G. Wells inspires me. I also like other genres written by authors such as Tom Wolf, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Clive Cussler, Tom Clancy, and J.K. Rowling A complete list would be too long. I have acquired a taste for poetry, which I am no good at. However, there are some exceptional poets on Wattpad. One in particular has inspired me more than anyone else, Zoies2. God bless her.

Bulletin: I currently have two non-fiction works running; 'The Universe Revealed', which isthe sequel to 'The Theory of Nothing', and 'The Science of ConspiracyTheories'. I am planning to publish the third book in the Ryan and Marieseries. It will be called 'Jet'.
