For Cassandra the school day was normal, if she ignored the feeling that everyone around her was going to die of course.
She made plans with Susan and Lucas to pick up Lucas after she finished her test and to meet Susan at The Cliff. The Cliff being their secret hideaway, it was a cliff hidden in a forest that was some thirty minutes from the edge of the city. You had to know what to look for, and all three of them did. They had found it a few years back, when they were playing around in the forest.
In her sixth period, chemistry, she sat next to Lucas. Other than her first period this was the only one they shared. They passed a note back an forth as their teacher droned on.
What time?
I'll pick you up around 4?
Kay. So what happened?
Cassandra's head shot up and she looked at Lucas her eyes wide, his hair had fallen in his eyes so she couldn't see the expression in them, but she could see his tentative little smile.
He tapped the paper lightly and she saw he had written something.
You came to school with that look in your eyes. Another Nightmare?
Lucas was the only person she'd ever told about her dreams, or rather 'Nightmares'. She had told him when she was about 9 and had seen him getting into a public bus and it crashing. She was so worried and scared she did something she'd never done before, told him about it. He didn't get on that bus that day, he'd been going with his parents to visit his aunt. The bus crashed and ever since Lucas has been tied to her, she saved his life and he'd never forget it.
Unlike her he believed in her dreams, believed they were actually visions of the future. But he never pushed her with them and Cassandra always appreciated having someone to tell about the nightmares she'd have. And to hold her when she cried when she inexplicably saw them come true. Someone who held her when the feelings became too strong. When they overpowered her and she couldn't even move, she could only whimper.
Lucas and her weren't dating, but they were closer than any two people normally were. Cassandra wasn't sure what they were exactly. And she wasn't sure if she wanted to date Lucas, she feared it would ruin her friendship and she'd lose him.
Ill tell you after I pick you up.
Cassandra wrote back slowly, and Luca slipped his hand over hers and squeezed lightly. After that they talked about meaningless things, like who was pregnant, who had what STD, who was cheating on who with who.
Cassandra and Lucas was both 'friends' with a large group of people, and most of their friends overlapped. So in times like this they had a lot of gossip to exchange and pick at. Lucas, even though he was quiet and rarely talked to people, was friends with people of every clique it seemed. Everyone wanted a friend who would just listen to them. Especially the girls, and being well muscled and attractive never hurt really.
Cassandra talked to everyone, no matter what they looked like or what clique they belonged to earning her a lot of friends and an good few enemies. But both her and Lucas had only two real friends, for Lucas it was her and Susan. For Cassandra it was Lucas and Susan.
The bell rang and they packed up Cassandra ripping up the note into tiny pieces after all her stuff was shoved into her bag. She dropped the bits into the recycling bin and gave Lucas a hug before they separated to head to their last class.
Two hours later Cassandra stood at the training grounds, her red bike propped next to her, the matching helmet in her hands. She slipped on her leather jacket a present form her dad. Both her parents sat in the bed of her dads truck, legs swinging off the tail. They had taken the afternoon off to cheer her on. She slipped her full-face helmet on, pulling down the visor and clipping the buckle. The tester was a tired looking middle-aged man, going slightly bald at the top of hi head. He motioned towards Cassandra and she swung her leg over the other side of her bike and started it up. It purred under her like a satisfied cat and she took a second to stroke it before revving it up and taking off towards the test ground, cones stood everywhere and Cassandra had watched closely as they were shown the way they were to maneuver around it. Cassandra easily maneuvered past the cones at a reasonable and safe speed, completing the test in under 15 minutes. The man stood at the end with a bored expression as she climbed off taking off her helmet.
"You passed, go inside and hand them this paper. They’ll fix your license so it has the right seal." he handed her a piece of paper and Cassy waved it at her parents who were clapping.
An hour later Cassandra stood outside of Luca's house revving her engine. Lucas came hopping out, slipping on a converse and tying it as he hopped down his steps. He had a black baggy hoodie on, covering his head and coming down to his nose. Cassandra wasn't entirely sure how he could see but he appeared to have no trouble maneuvering.
She held out another full face helmet, this one black with blue feather designs on it. He slipped it on after he took off his hood. He swung his leg over the bike and wrapped his arms around Cassandra sending a slight shiver down her spine she ignored.
"Don't crash us!" Luca called at her and Cassandra let out a laugh as she kicked started it, pushed up the kick stand and peeled out of his drive way. Luca's grip tightened as she shot down the road, going the speed limit of course. It just felt faster on a bike.
The second she hit the highway she gunned it, hitting 65 in seconds. Lucas let out a lout whoop as did Cassandra, laughing as she did. She felt his arms tighten even more though and she knew he was still scared. Cassandra smirked under the helmet, good it was revenge for every time he had scared her.
It took a good twenty minutes before Cassandra took a ramp off and slowed down, stopping at a red light.
"Cassy this is amazing! I need to get my own bike!" Cassandra laughed, they both knew Lucas was too scared to ever drive one himself.
"Until then I'll ride you around on mine anytime you want." Cassandra tossed over her shoulder.
"Did you finally figure out a name by the way?"
"Yea, Cherry." Cassandra had been debating the name of her bike, because of course it needed a name, for weeks. She had finally settled on Cherry. Short, sweet, sexy, and obvious. Lucas laughed and Cassandra shot off when the light turned, taking a side road until they hit the woods.
Cassandra drove her bike up the wooded trail a bit before it got too crowded to go any farther, she killed the engine and propped it up. She locked the handle and wheels. She put her and Luca's helmets in the side saddles she'd added and took out the camo tarp to cover it. She didn't want anyone stealing her baby.
Lucas smiled at her and Cassandra sighed, she'd have to explain the dream then, while they walked. She started to walk and Lucas slung an arm around her shoulder as they did.
Cassandra took a deep steadying breathe.
"It started with me running in mist filled woods, in only a torn up nightgown..."
~A/N Tell me if you see any grammatical errors please!
And tell me what do you guys think of Lucas?
Remember this isn't a love story so the romance needs to be a side story of sorts. Not the main attraction. Which will come soon. And remember The Cliff; it comes to play later.
By the way should I kill Susan, Lucas, or Cassy's parents?
Anyways, give me advice and ideas guys its much appreciated!
