Chapter 15
I walk through the front door of my house around ten a.m. I close the front door quietly and try not to wake anyone as I tiptoe my way up to my bedroom. When I reach my bedroom door and open it, I am greeted with an instant rush of cool air. I walk over to my bed and lay on my back, happy about recent events.
I close my eyes and smile to myself, the cool air dancing around my body, almost causing a shiver to ripple through me. The sun beats through the closed window on my right, my body reveling in the luxurous feel of the warmth that encloses me. Its emanate warmth makes me think of Jayce and I suddenly miss the feeling of his arms wrapped around me. It comes to no surprise that he gave me a sense of protection and comfort. It saddens me to know that I had to leave early this morning. I didn't want my mother to awake and become all antsy about where I was.
I hear a tap on my door that breaks me from my thoughts. I sigh, wondering who it is, getting up to open the door. "Yeah?"
"Hey," Aiden smiles.
"Hey, Aiden." I smile at Aiden in relief. I'm thankful that it wasn't anyone else, like Lily, for example. I think she may be the only person that could ruin my mood this morning.
"Can I come in?" Aiden digs his hands into his front pockets nervously.
"Sure, I guess," I nod. "But close the door. I don't want to see or hear the other sibling."
"Okay," I hear Aiden chuckle as I turn away from him and walk over to sit on my bed.
"So what's up?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"Bored," He mutters.
"Shouldn't you be asleep?" I ask curiously. "You're never awake this early."
"Well I am today. Besides, it's like eleven o'clock, that's hardly early at all." Aiden sighs and leans back in the computer chair he is now sitting in. I stay silent and just stare at him. I know he's lying. Whenever he's awake this early, it's usually because he has something on his mind. Granted, eleven in the morning isn't exactly early but it is for him. Aiden is definitely not an early bird, a night owl, maybe.
"Okay..." He lets his voice trail and I can tell that he is trying to look for the right words to say. "I might have been a little worried..."
I look at Aiden and surprised. "About me? Why?"
It wasn't until that moment that I actually took the time to notice his discomfort. "Because you didn't exactly come home last night." He admits.
"Aiden, you don't have to worry about me." I smile at him assuringly. "Besides, you knew I was with Jayce. What did you think was going to happen?"
"I'm sorry," He frowns. "It's a nervous habit."
The air becomes thick with silence. We both knew what the other was instantly thinking about and it didn't come to a surprise to me that Aiden felt that way. His ability to worry about me didn't just happen over night. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he acquired that trait when our father had passed away. I never really noticed it before but the more I think about it, the more obvious it becomes. It makes sense.
