Chapter 3 - How a Hero Uses Their Powers
For the second meeting of Adventure club, the group met again at the clearing in Limit Forest. It was a Monday and everyone had walked there together after school ended. Emery told them about the meeting at the last minute, and even still everyone showed up. They were standing in the clearing, in the middle of a forest. The clearing itself was closer to the road than to the heart of the forest and they took advantage of that fact this time around and skipped most of the hiking that they did during their first meet. Emery was thinking about what they should do first with his hand to his chin. Kiran whacked Emery on the back playfully, causing Emery to almost fall over.
“Who’re the hunks again?” Kamie said looking at Kiran.
“Now that we’ve met twice, it’s safe to say that the new guys are totally cute," Annie said.
“That’s pretty much everyone," Emery said jokingly.
Ken and Kiran looked at each other and started to tiptoe backwards away from the group. They didn’t like being objectified by the girls. They turned around and proceeded to walk away but there were already hands around their arms. Both Ken and Kiran looked down at their arms to see that there were girls attached to them. Derek and Grey had looks of intense anger, as Kamie had her arm around Kiran and Annie had her arm around Ken. Rina started to punch her palm in anger because Annie was getting a bit too clingy with a certain someone.
How is he going to turn these people, us, into heroes, Jan thought to herself as she kept a slight distance from the group.
Emery then blew a whistle that was around his neck. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at Emery; they weren’t expecting Emery to use a whistle this time. But Emery interjected before anyone could criticize him.
“We are running laps around the clearing," Emery shouted.
“The key word is WE," Kiran said as he looked at everyone else.
A few minutes later everyone had started running. Though at this point, Derek was already tired and resting behind a tree while the rest of the group was running up ahead. Ken and Kiran were jogging at a fast pace, trying to get ahead of each other. Kiran ran ahead and tried to overtake Ken.
“All American trumps you, Samurai!” Kiran shouted.
Ken ran up and got ahead of Kiran. He then looked back at Kiran and said, “Your resolve is weak. Like your country!”
Kiran then ran up ahead of Ken again and flashed him a thumbs down.
“Rocky’d beat Muramasa any day!” Kiran shouted back.
Ken then ran ahead of Kiran yet again.
“Except he would have to wait for the next life!” Ken yelled. The both sped up and started yelling different things in unison.
Emery was running behind their extraordinarily fast pace and trying to motivate the rest of the group.
“C’mon everyone you can do it!” Emery shouted as he looked back at everyone else.
Everyone else though, were jogging leisurely and barely paying Emery any attention. Though, it was reassuring that Emery tried to raise their morale, so no one said anything negative. In fact, everyone was starting to get used to Emery.
