The next morning I was rudely awakened by my phone going off. When I didn’t bother to answer the ring from the notifications drove me insane and bothered my sleep. The sun smiled at me the moment I removed the covers from my head, it felt good not having to wake up and do school work or any work at that. I leaned over my nightstand to check my phone for important messages and to see who’d call so early in the morning. A missed call from a number I was not fond of I wanted to delete the message before listening to it but that would be rude of me.

“Hey uh Good Morning Ms. Paris this is Dean Richardson informing you with great news, if you haven’t already checked your mailbox consider this as a morning pick me up before the happy hour. Your grades are in and you have done a tremendous job with keeping up your grades and extra credit work and I am more than happy to inform you that you will be graduating this fall 2013. What does this mean you might ask yourself. Basically you have skipped a grade and from this point on your whole life will change, and do not worry your little head about college this fall or having to wait until otherwise. All early graduates will be given a letter to the college of their choice a week or so after graduation, and with our early phone calls and mailing in grades, we are giving you plenty of time to think about everything. Tuition will be paid for along with room and boarding. Again I would love to congratulate you on your hard work and dedication. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call this number back. Enjoy your summer Paris and have a blessed day.”

I sat quiet for a moment, trying to catch my breath, hoping to come back to reality and wake up from this dream I am obviously having. “This can’t be real…I’ve worked so hard and…”

The tears came pouring from beneath my eyes I couldn’t believe it. For so long I never thought I’d be anything or be able to do what I’ve dreamt of doing, and now I was only one step away before actually going out and chasing my dreams. I quickly pushed the covers off of me and ran outside to the mailbox. Speeding past Alan and Mia in my long T-shirt and underwear I wasted no time to stop and talk. I could explain when I get back in the house. “Good Morning.”

Searching through the mail I didn’t stop until I saw a mustard colored envelope that read Westerfeld High, I hesitated before opening and when I did my grades was the first thing I saw. Straight As all the way through in every class. “YES YOU SMART ASS YOU…” I screamed with excitement. The other papers simply explained a little bit more of what Dean Richardson explained to me on the phone. When I walked back in the house I was welcomed with large eyes, arched eye brows and folded arms. I wasn’t sure where this was going but I knew how it was ending.

“Do I need to ask or are you going to explain what was so important that you couldn’t put some clothes on.” Mia sounded up set but I was too excited to let it bother me.

“To be honest I wanted to lock your ass out.” Alan scalded

I placed the letters on the table, not saying a word I opened up my phone to play the voice and let it speak for me. When it finished I was bum rushed on to the couch with arms and chest from the both of them.

“Oh my god baby I am so happy for you.” Mia kissed me all over, lips neck, everything. We usually play like that but never took each other seriously. That’s just who we were, our friendship went deeper than most. All fun.

“Damn it Paris…you…smart…thing…you...Con...Gra…ats...Pa...ris” Alan humped me as he dragged out his words. I couldn’t hold back the laughter, I was happy and it felt good having those who care about me all over me.

“So what are you going to do, where do you want to go?”

“I don’t know Mia; I wasn’t planning on thinking about this stuff until next year.”
