CHAPTER 4
SNAKES AND LADDERS
"I told you not to behave like a child but NO! YOU wouldn't listen to me. Well ta-da you got your wish, you ruined our night.
"OUR night?" he asked raising an eyebrow, smirking.
"Oh you know what I mean!" I snapped back at him.
So basically what happened after little Mr Tango here got us to the dance floor was as soon as the music started playing, I had no clue about what steps to take so I ended up stepping on Derrick's foot (and by stepping I mean stomping) which resulted in him tripping over which led to US bumping in another couple causing them to crash into a table and creating a mess. Soon after that, we were (no surprise) kicked out of the restaurant. It was just a series of unfortunate events. I finally got what that book really meant.
Here we were sitting by a small lake throwing stones in the water and bickering.
"We still have 30 minutes left till 8 so I suggest, stop being a sourpuss and try to have some fun.
"Oh yea? And what exactly IS your idea of 'fun'? I questioned making air quotes on the word fun.
"THIS".
With that he took off his shirt and dove into the lake.
"Oh so you wanna go skinny dipping, yea that really DOES sound fun. Now why don't you demonstrate further." My voice dripping with sarcasm.
"You would enjoy that wont you?" He said winking.
"Go do whatever you want. I am just going to...sit..HERE and soak in the morning sun." I closed my eyes and lay on my back listening to the splashes Derrick was making, it somehow felt relaxing.
Not even two minutes passed when I got hit with water. Tons of cold water.
I screamed and yelled at Derrick to stop splashing water towards me but he won't quit it.
"Cut loose babe!"
Oh that word I despised. "Don't you ever call me BABE!"
I took off the coat and hat and charged towards him with full speed and pushed him in the water. A huge splashed followed after and we both lay there laughing while occasionally splashing water at each other.
"Sto..op...staaahh.." I couldn't complete my words as I was laughing and Derrick splashing water in my mouth every few seconds.
I tried to grab him so he would stop but instead I tripped over a rock in the water. I closed my eyes waiting for my face to come in contact with the water but it never did.
I opened my eyes to see Derrick's green eyes staring right into mine. He was holding me in his arms and our faces were so close that if he moved an inch closer our noses would touch. I know it sounds something from a cheesy movie but it was real.
"Hey we have to go it's time or we would get caught." I said looking away, breaking the connection.
"Yea just.. L-let me grab my shirt". He stuttered.
"Here are my things", I put the hat and coat on my wet clothes. My shirt was almost see through so I buttoned up the coat.
"I put my shirt over....", his voice trailed off.
"Hurry up" I called out as I started walking.
What was that back there? Did we actually connect? Did he feel the same as I did when our eyes met...
