CHAPTER 5

BLAST FROM THE PAST

"This here guys is the famous Arch Of Constantine", our guide announced gesturing towards a huge magnificent arch like structure.

As he went on explaining to us the history and significance of the arch, I snapped a few pictures while the rest of the girls were mostly focusing on getting perfect pictures of themselves rather than the architectural beauty.

We moved along towards the Colosseum. Although I always wanted to go to Italy and now that I was here, I wasn't quite happy. My best friend couldn't get permission to accompany me on this trip so I couldn't cherish these moments with her. My best friend, Emily, lived right next door to me and we had been friends for as long as I can remember. In school while I just got pushed around by the popular evil girls, she always took a stand against them and stood up for me.

She always got angry at me for not being able to tell them off but I just chose not to because I hated getting into fights and arguments. Without her here now, I felt left out but I was strong enough to not let that ruin my dream trip.

I snapped a couple of pictures as we entered the Colosseum. It was really awe-inspiring, the architecture, the ancient touch to the place, it all really gave me something to imagine about the ancient times and how people used to interact with their surroundings. Being here now, my love for history and travelling was growing even more.

"Ahem", someone cleared their throat from behind interrupting my thoughts and I realized that the group had gone far ahead without them noticing that I was standing here lost in my own world.

"Hello?" A hand waved in front of me and I turned my head around to see Derrick standing there with an amused expression on his face.

"I know I'm dreamy but you don't need to dream about me in the daytime too, that's what the night is for." He winked making me blush a little.

"I-I was just....thinking about how the Romans managed to find their way in all of this maze like place" I stuttered. I mentally slapped myself for the lame explanation I just gave him.

He chuckled and then started walking. I fell in step with him and we both walked casually in silence, not hurrying up to catch up with the group although I did keep the group within focus in case we got lost or something.

We walked through the Colosseum in more silence when Derrick suddenly spoke,

"Want to get lost?" He said with a twinkle in his eye.

He was always the adventurous type. You know living on the edge, bad boyish kind of thing. It added a mysterious and interesting tinge to his personality.

"Get lost? In Italy? In this creepy old place?" I looked at him skeptically.

"Oh so now it's creepy? I thought you liked this stuff from the amount of pictures you took" he raised an eyebrow.

Was he watching me when I was taking pictures? I shook the thought away.

"I mean yeah it's nice from a touristic point of view but getting lost? Are you out of your mind?"

"Ok tell you what lets make it a little more safe for YOU and interesting for ME..." he trailed off thinking.

"Oh boy I don't think I like the sound of that" I muttered under my breath.
