Now back to the present...
My door starts to inch forward and I know my time is up. He had found me, whoever he is.
"Don't you remember your Uncle Jack? How your parents told you he was dead?"
"No, I don't remember ever having an uncle named Jack..."
"Don't lie to me! You do remember me!"
Of course I did, how could I not. He was my favorite uncle until my parents told me he had died, but they never specified how.
"I'm Jack! Look at me, I'm not dead!! Your parents lied to you. They said I was crazy, a lunatic. They stuck my inside an asylum for the mentally insane. They lied to everyone! I was furious. How could they do this to me? I knew they had to pay, someway."
"That didn't mean you had to kill them! You really are insane! How could you kill them? They did this for your own good. Monster!"
I attempted to run out in some way, but he was faster than I expected. In the blink of an eye, he had stabbed me with my mother's special dicing knife.
I felt lightheaded, why was I feeling no pain. This actually felt soothing in some way. My vision started to cloud over and became dark around the edges. Is this how it feels to die?
I feel the sensation of a cool blade running along the warm skin on my neck. I hear the deranged laughter of my uncle echoing throughout my ears and I remember the old poem I used to read as a child...
Angels watching over us
No malice near your heart
Little child make no fuss
For this is just the start
The pain is nowhere near
You're safe and sound
And the sky is clear
No cloud to be found
So show that smile
So pure and true
And stay a while
For the sky is still blue
The time still ticks
Another little grain
They're up to their tricks
Locked up in chains
Little child find the angels
Seek the light
And count your pages
To say one final goodnight
