Too Far

Everything was blurry. Saito felt like he was drunk. Like he was out of his body. He could only see some shapes and colors. His vision slowly started to clear. What he saw horrified him.

"K-Kimura!" He yelped.

Hitomi was laying on the floor, barely having her eyes open. Blood was everywhere, going out of the two wounds he didn't know how she got. One was on her side, the other was on her back.

"I see you're back." She barely said and smiled.

Her eyes looked so lifeless. He couldn't even understand how she could smile and talk in this situation.

"Shit! I don't have my phone!" Saito panicked.

He couldn't call the ambulance.

"Where's your phone?" He asked hurriedly.

"You broke it, don't you remember?" She whispered.

Broke it? When did he do that? He looked around and saw bodies. Two of them weren't breathing, the other were knocked out. His eyes widened.

Did he do this?

"I... I didn't mean to..." His voice cracked, and he was sure he was close to crying.

He actually... Killed someone...

"No time for angst, just take me to the nearest house." Hitomi said with the same cheery tone, the only difference was that it was much weaker.

He could barely look at her when she was so weak. He never saw her looking like that. He gently picked her up and started to run. She gripped his arm, but it was slowly starting to weaken.

"St-Stay with me!" He yelled when he noticed her eyes were closing.

She was forcefully opening them. She grinned at him.

"This is all your fault, you know?"

That pierced his heart. He knew it himself, but her saying that just hurt even more. That caught him off guard and he tripped and fell.

Hitomi fell from his hands and she knocked on the floor with a loud thud. Her wound bleed more, but it didn't look like she bothered. He picked himself up and her as well.

"Don't die on me!" He yelled as he ran.

"I... I don't want to..." Her eyes widened, as if she only now understood what was actually happening.

"Saito! I don't wanna die!" She started to yell, but that only caused her to loose more blood.

"Stop moving!" He yelled while he continued to run.

She didn't look panicked anymore. Her eyes started to close slowly.

"Don't! Hitomi!" He screamed.

She grinned her signature grin. That's the first time he said her name.

"On the verge of my death you decide to call me by my name..." She mumbled.

"I'll never forgive you, Sai-Chan..." Her eyes closed.

He wanted to cry. She has the right to not forgive him. He's the reason she could die. She doesn't have to forgive him.

"Hitomi!" He screamed, but she didn't move.

He could still hear her heavy breathing and that was the only thing that helped him.

He did eventually found a house and he pounded on the door until someone opened it.

"What do you- My God!" A woman yelled as she opened the door.

She shrieked when she saw all the blood. Her body shook as she looked at the half dead Hitomi and the drenched in blood Saito.

"Please call the ambulance!" Saito begged.

The woman gulped and nodded. She ran inside the house and he heard her talking to them.

She ran outside and ordered him to bring her inside.

"You uneducated boy! You could've at least given her your shirt to stop the bleeding!" She wrapped Hitomi's body a bit, so at least she could do something before the ambulance came.

She grumbled as she wrapped her, while Saito just stared at Hitomi's peaceful face. His mind was racing. This is all because of him. Because he can't control his demon half. He put his hands on his face. He couldn't think.

The ambulance came and took Hitomi. Saito didn't wanna go with them, so he just went to the hospital by foot, which wasn't far. But before that the grumpy woman gave him some clean clothes, since he can't really run around in bloody clothes without catching a few stares or calls of the police.

Plus, he ran, which in demon speed equaled ten minutes. Of course they took him to the waiting room.

"What did he get herself in now?" A very annoyed man was in the room with him, waiting for the same person.

"Mr. Kimura, your daughter is wounded. She'll be in the hospital for a week, but it's still bad."

Of course with the new technology, wounds that were fatal before were now no big deal.

"I'm sure she'll be fine." He grumbled in annoyance.

Saito couldn't believe how that man reacted to his own daughter getting into the hospital. For all he knew she could be mortally wounded. He just wanted to stand up and punch him in the face.

Hitomi's father had her big brown eyes, and they had the same dead stare. The woman next to him was quiet and looked worried. She was tan and skinny. Her blue eyes looked teary and the bags under her eyes suggested that she didn't get enough of sleep for a long while. The child next to her looked identical to Hitomi. He logically concluded that was Ayumu. She however looked paranoid and worried at the same time.

She noticed him staring at her. He looked away awkwardly, but Ayumu took that as an invitation.

"D-Do you know what happened to her?" She asked timidly while she looked at the floor.

"A demon..." He said as he looked away in shame.

This went too far. He didn't even know how the men in the alley are doing right now. He was terrified. He was now officially a killer. A killer that doesn't even deserve to live.

So he made a decision.

Saito will turn himself in tomorrow after school.
