Chap 26

I woke up in my bed in my room but something felt different. I looked beside me but the person who was there last night was long gone. I got up and took a warm shower. I took sweats and a top out of the drawer and looked ay myself in the mirror. The bags around my eyes were gone, but so were my pictures!

All around my mirror rim I had photos of Tristan, Daìthì, Tylor (when he was drunk mostly), Harry and Me. Where did they go? I started to freak out. I whipped my phone out to call Tristan, but reality hit. He was coming back ever. I broke down, saying home from school I hide from the world under my blanket.

“Brook? Can I come in?” a voice asked on the other side of the door. “No! Go away!” I mumbled. “I’m going in anyway.” The voice, along with the person came into my room. “Howya now?” they asked. I laughed a little at the Irish accent. “I’m fine, how’s Zack?”. Anna sighed.  “I don’t know.” I could hear the emotion thick in her voice. She continued. “He left me.” Her brave exterior slowly faded as her shoulders jerked with each soft sob she must have been holding back for a while. The sight of her bottom lip quivering sent me into my own grief as we sat together and cried. “No. Enough!” I yelled jumping up from the bed. I dialled his number and waited for that idiot who could make anyone smile pick up. “Well.” “Wayhey another Irish person!” Anna screamed. “I’m not alone in this cruel, cruel world!” Daìthì laughed on the other end of the phone. “Well although the population in Ireland is low it’s not in danger of being extinct anytime soon. What neck of the woods are you from?”  I’ve never heard Daìthì’s full Irish accent before until now, it could really draw a girl in. “Westport!” Anna yelled doing a funny weird little dance and yelling ‘uh uh ew!’ I forgot how much this girl loves Westport. “Pfftt, Connemara’s the place to be!” I could hear the cheeky smirk in his voice. “No fudging way!” Anna said, she thought that cussing didn’t give off a very good first impression.  “Where’s Connemara?” I asked confused because the only Irish word I knew was Madra which meant dog … I think. “Galway” the both said. “We’re buying her a map of Ireland for her birthday.” Anna said tapping her chin with her fingers deep in thought. I could imagine Daìthì on the other end of the phone only with his tongue poking out in concentration. “Good idea, agreed.” Daìthì said after a while. “Okay Anna I have to talk to Danny now sorry.” I told her talking Daìthì off speaker. “Hay I need to talk to you.” I told him as I walked out into the hall closing the door behind me. I walked down the hall and outside. “Sure, shoot.” He said. “Will you go out with Anna?” I asked him.  “The girl on the phone?” he asked. “Yes please!!!”  “Sure no problem.” I could hear the smile in his voice. “Great pick her up at four.” I hung up after we said our goodbyes.

I ran inside to tell Anna. “Yo, get ready to party because you gotta date your welcome!” I sang but walking into the room I was met with an image that took my breathe away. Anna making out with Josh. “Huh?” I asked, tears streaming down my face. I looked closer and saw Anna try to push herself away from him but he wouldn’t let go. “Josh.” I whispered. “Josh!” I said louder. “JOSH!!!” I screamed at him. “Brook.  I didn’t! It isn’t what it looks like.” He tried to explain. “Fine. Tell me she has some disease only your spit can cure!” I demanded letting my tears show how hurt I was. Same old Josh. “I thought you changed.” I yelled! “I have!” he yelled back. “I’m doing it to see if I love you.” He finished quietly. “How the hell does making out with Anna help?!” “It’s true Brook.” Anna sighed. “He asked me to kiss him just to so he could find out whether or not he did love you.  “And???” I demanded impatiently. Josh’s eyes lit up. “I love you Brook. It just a while for me to figure it all out.” he walked up and wrapped his arms around me. “Daìthì is coming at four to bring Anna on a date. I have to go.” I walked briskly out of the house and walked back to my safe house.

I had a key so I let myself in and found everyone sitting on the couch. Well, almost everyone.

“Hay Brook, what’s wrong?” Seth said leaping up to my side and pulling me into his warm hug.  Seth reminds me of a Teddy bear. Not boyfriend material, we defined the relationship and we’re just friends. We’re

“You and Tristan aren’t brothers.” I told him holding back a sob. Seth sighed. “No. We’re not, but we’ve lived together for 532 years. The guys are great, but Tristan’s always been my best friend, and nothing could ever replace him.” I leaned in and rested all my weight on him in our sideways hug.  He lead me over to the couch where I sat between Harry and Seth. “He’s not dead. He’s just keeping his distance. Isn’t he.” I asked. Silence fell among the group. “He’s gone.” Tylor said sombrely after a while.

Daìthì left for his date, dropping me home on the way. I gave him a quick hug and waved goodbye. Anna passed me but I just smiled and rushed her on when she began to explain about earlier.  I sighed and closed the door and listened to the silent house. “Tristan?” I asked. I could feel the tingles I get every time he was near me. “I know you’re here Tris.” I shouted but only got silence as a response. “Great, now that I have your attention. I love you. I never meant what I said. I want you back. I need your arms around me. I just wanted the fighting to stop! Not the love!  I just…I just want you.” I said sliding down the door so I was sitting sobbing quietly.  Josh came out of the shadows but his usually electric blue eyes were a darker shade rimmed with gold flecks. “Tristan?” I asked and even though it looked like Josh, Tristan’s voice came from his mouth.  “Brook. I love you too but I’ll only just hurt you. You were right, I’m no good for you. Stay with Josh. He loves you. Don’t question how I’m doing this I’m just too smart. Listen, I’m not coming back. You deserve better just know that I love you. I might see you again, maybe in this lifetime maybe another.” “No! Tristan! I want you this life time!” But I was too late. Josh’s eyes went back to their electric blue colour and they blinked a few times before they focused on me and my tear stained person. “Brook, I think your broken.” Josh laughed. “huh? Why?”  “I’ve never seen you cry so much.” I laughed along with him. Time to move on.

‘where ever you are Tristan. Know I love you too.’ I thought to myself.
