A few weeks after that one moment in January, that wouldn't get out of her mind for the weeks that would follow, Abigail sat in the school cafetaria. She was sitting alone, far away from idiots like Rodney and his gang and the girls from her class who never cared about her. All alone, just like every other day. Until she saw a guy in the corner of her eye, walking to her table. Could it be?
Yes. It was.
Abigail recognized that very guy immediately. It was Brian! She couldn't believe it.
"Hey, Taj Mahal girl," he said. "Remember me?" "Ehrm... Yeah... Sort of..." Abigail stammered, as if she didn't spent the last few weeks obsessing over the guy who was sitting now next to her. "I saw you sitting here and thought: wasn't that the girl I saw at Joe's a few weeks ago? I mean, you looked so nice and friendly."
Abigail's heart made a triple backflip. The guy she had come to love just called her 'nice and friendly', even though he had seen her once (and vice versa). "And besides, I saw you just sitting here all by yourself, isolated from all your fellow students. I thought you needed some company. Oh, and just in case you forgot it, my name was Brian." Abigail, who surely hadn't forgotten the name of that certain fellow, answered (with a little stutter in her voice): "a-and I'm Abigail. Abigail McSweetheart."
The remaining time of the break, Abigail and Brian talked to eachother. Brian told her he was an astrophysics student who played guitar in a band called Smile. He did that on a guitar like no other on this planet: he made with his dad from all kinds of scrap. Besides that, Brian was also fond of stereoscopic images (but Abigail already knew that) and he was a vegetarian. In return, Abigail told him about her shared passion for stereoscopic images, her early admission to college, and all the drama-llama about her family.
"Cool to know. But I've gotta go. I have a lecture in astrophysics in about five minutes. See you next time!"
"See you...next time...too," said Abigail, while she tried not to faint.
