(Katherine's POV)
Red was, sad to say, the only color I could really see in my room. My mother had never allowed me to step outside the underworld since she said it was a land swarming with bad people.
My father wasn't exactly father of the year either; I had never felt any fatherly love from him, nor will I ever.
Everyday I'd stare out my bedroom window thinking only one thought, 'whats up there above the clouds?'.
Today, like any normal day, I had to go see my mother so she can give me a lecture of how the princess of the underworld should behave.
Basically to be polite, stand straight with my head lifted, and not to talk except when spoken to. Of course all of those were utterly ridiculous, but the rule of avoiding contact with commoners? Even more ridiculous.
I didn't really care about that nonsense; I walked towards the door of my mother's room and knocked on the door.
I waited for my mom's yell of "come in!" before I entered.
"I'm ready for my behavior lessons mother" I said as I rolled my eyes. "it isn't about your princess lessons, its about your father" my mom said in annoyance.
"yeah what about him?" I asked. "your father has been banished," she started but I interrupted her saying "yeah so?".
she ignores my question and continued "he was bound to live as a human, forever". Now this is a shocker "as a human?!" I asked in complete shock yet happiness.
"yes, as a pathetic mortal, and Zeus was the one to do that" she said, her voice holding a tone of disgust as she mentioned Zeus's name.
"what do I have to do with all this?" I asked. "we are going to be living above the clouds from now on and-" I interrupted her yet again, "above the clouds?! yes!" I yelled happily as I clapped my hands.
She just rolled her eyes at my comment and completed her sentence "to get revenge" she said. That's when I stopped my jumping, "revenge?why?he deserved that!" I yelled the words I never thought I'd ever have the nerve to say.
"we are going to live above the clouds and get revenge on Zeus by killing someone very close to him" she said. "what do you mean we?! I am not avenging my father!" I yelled.
With that said, I ran upstairs and packed my stuff while ignoring all the screams my mom.
-3 hour time skip-
I stared in awe as I looked out the windows of my new house; I was actually above the clouds!
"Katherine, we made it but don't forget our-" she started. "NO MOTHER I AM NOT AVENGING MY FATHER! HE WAS MEAN TO ME! HE DESERVED HIS PUNISHMENT!" I yelled at my mom.
"YOUNG LADY HOW DARE YOU SPEAK TO ME THAT WAY! YOU ARE-" she started but I interrupted her. The tenth time today, record breaker!
"I'M SICK OF THIS!" I yelled as I opened the front door and ran out, slamming the door behind me.
As I ran to what I imagined was the forest, I let my tears pour down. When I stumbled and fell over face first, I yelled in frustration "this isn't fair! I hate this!".
When I finally set my rage free from its prison, I sat down on a log and stared at the pure blue sky; I never imagined there would a sky above the clouds.
Fresh tears started to sting my eyes as they poured down my cheeks; I suddenly heard footsteps, "Who's there?" I asked out loud.
A girl with ginger hair tied in a ponytail and deep hazel eyes stepped out of the bushes nearby.
"I'm sorry, this is my favourite place to calm down my nerves, and I couldn't help but find the source of the crying and yelling I was hearing" she said with a look of concern.
"I-I was that loud?" I asked with a small hint of humor, resulting in me laughing at myself and the girl laughed along.
"So, wanna talk about it?" She questioned as she sat down next to me on the log.
"You see my dad, Hades, was recently banished and was bound to live as a human forever and my mom is really mad about," I said for starters.
"Oh I remember that! my dad was the one who did that. Sorry, is that why you were crying?" She asked.
"No not at all, in fact I hate my dad; he was always mean to me. He made me feel like an outcast, but wait your dad is the Zeus?" I was shocked, this was Zeus's daughter?
"Yeah, but-" she said before I cut her off. "oh no!" I yelled in realization.
"What?" She asked in panic. "My mom wants to avenge my dad's banishment by...", I stopped for a moment, hesitating to answer. "by what?" She asked.
"By killing someone very close to Zeus" I said and she gasped. "she'll what?!" She yelled, "she told me that we had to do it, but I didn't want to so I ran out here. Then well, you know the rest" I confessed.
I hated the fact that mom intended to drag me into her plan, it hurt that she only wanted me for revenge. I didn't realized I had started crying until the girl put a comforting arm around my shoulders.
"How are you okay with all this? My mom is forcing me to kill someone from your family!" I yelled as I cried into the strange girl's shoulder.
"You won't, by the way you act and talk, I can tell your heart is too pure to take a life" she said.
I wiped away my tears and observed the girl, then I remembered I never got her name. "So what's your name?I'm Katherine" I said as I stretch out a hand to shake.
"Demeter, it's nice to meet you Kath" she said. "you too, Demi" I replied, then we burst out laughing.
I just got myself a new friend, my very first friend.
- 4 years later -
"Come on Demi! We're gonna be late!" I yelled to my best friend, Demeter. "I'm coming Kath!" she yelled back as she caught up with me.
"Why are you so excited anyway, it's just the first day of middle school" she said. "Exactly! You know back in the underworld I only had princess school, which was too boring!" I sighed at the memory of the hell called princess school.
"Yeah I know but still, we have been through elementary school together" she said.
"Best years of my life, but I'm still really excited! It's a new school, that means new friends, teachers, and challenges!" I exclaimed excitedly, causing the people around us to stare at me.
Demeter just laughed at my outburst, "Okay Kath, lets save up that energy for school, okay?" She giggled.
"Fine!" I pretended to grouch as I playfully smacked her shoulder. "Its gonna be a great first day of school!" We yelled at the same time as we performed flawless hair flips at the same time, and then burst out laughing.
"Lets race to school! loser has to bake cookies for the winner" I suggested. "Oh you're so on!" She agreed as she took a headstart.
"Hey no fair!" I yelled while laughing, and she laughed too.
Yeah, it's gonna be a great school year.
