Head Boy and Head Girl

Draco's P.O.V

As Draco watched Weasley kiss Hermione he felt sick just watching. He knew that Granger deserved better, he knew that their relationship wouldn't last long as Ron couldn't keep his attention on Hermione.

Finally Draco waited outside the compartment with his bags ready to walk with Hermione to Professor McGonagall compartment. As Hermione walked out she noticed Draco had waited for her and smiled at him, she had a strange feeling that Draco was somehow different than what he used to be.

As they arrived to the compartment McGonagall wasn't there yet so Draco took the chance to say something that he should have said a long time ago. "Hermione, I just wanted to say that I am so sorry for everything that I have ever done to you. It killed me to watch you being tortured, my father had forced me to become a Death Eater because otherwise my mother would have been killed and so would I. My father is now in Azkaban and my mother has helped me become a better person, I have now realised that my father was never a role model that I should have looked up to. I used to think that he was the best and I had believed all of the horrible things he said. I no longer care about the blood status and my friends have changed as well. So Hermione Granger will you forgive me?"

Hermione looked over at Draco shocked by who's he had just said. She thought about what she would say for a few seconds. "Draco Malfoy, you have caused me and my friends to go through complete torture throughout our time at school. But I am willing to forgive you because I know what it is like to do something when you don't want to. I had to obliviate my parents memories of me before the war started because I didn't want Voldemort to torture them. I forgive you Draco." She looked up and smiled at him, what she didn't expect was for him to pull her in for a hug. He whispered in her ear "Thank you so much, I was afraid for a second that you wouldn't forgive me and honestly I wouldn't have been surprised if you hadn't, but thank you."

What they both hadn't realised was that the Headmistress had walked in when Draco was apologising. They only realised that she was there until she went "well now that you two are no longer fighting we need to get down to business." Draco and Hermione looked over to Professor McGonagall and she continued "This year both of you have been chosen by myself and Professor Dumbledore as Head Girl and Head Boy. You'll have to organize a roster for patrolling the halls with the prefects, you of course will have to patrol as well. Also I know that this will come as a shock, but you will no longer be staying in your house common rooms. You have a new common room for the Head Prefects, yourselves. When we arrive at the school I will show you your new common room. Now any questions?" Draco and Hermione shook their heads. "Well then you are dismissed, you may go to the Head Prefects compartment now and freshen up, we will be arriving at hogwarts in a hour or so."

Draco and Hermione walked towards the Head Prefects compartment and sat down. They talked for the rest of the trip and made the roster for patrols. Surprisingly Hermione felt that she could be herself and just relax around Draco, she had never felt like that around Ron. He was demanding and always wanted her to be someone else. He was acting weird lately, something was wrong, there was something he wasn't telling her.
