"Bad Girls Have Bad Secrets"
The Ninth Secret - She's On The Run
I woke up with a sore neck and back. I shielded my eyes from the light of day surrounding me, it's brightness like knives stabbing at my eyes. A groan emanated from my throat, my other hand going to support my neck as I rolled it back.
A word of advise; never sleep in a sitting position.
My butt was completely numb, I couldn't feel it. I groaned as I stretched my legs out, pain shooting through them until my knees popped loudly. I wiped at my eyes, removing any trace of sleep from them.
The sky was bright, full of white puffy looking clouds, the sun hidden behind them. You did it. You actually did it. You ran away. You left.
The sounds of a few yells drew my attention to a few teenagers walking in the road, laughing among themselves. I retreated to the cover of the trees, not wanting to be seen. Once they had passed, I grabbed my bag and left the park, heading to the store nearby. I needed to pee.
I entered a toilet stall, dumping my bag on the floor, before relieving myself. After, I changed my shirt, and loosened my hair to redo it, before I pulled a beanie over it. I finally left the stall, moving to the sink to wash my hands and face.
Returning to the store itself, I bought a bag of chips and a bottle of water. Just something to keep me going. I returned to the park then, not wanting to be seen by anyone who would recognise me. I wasn't even sure if my father would look for me- I doubted it. I hoped he wouldn't.
The day dragged by, a few hours later, I set out looking for a job at a few diners. My luck was terrible, as every place had been in no need of help. I felt miserable.
The next day came by, I wasn't even sure what day it was. I took a walk, bored out of my mind, yet enjoying the alone time I got. No noise, no blaring music, no screams of helpless people, no gunshots, no abuse.
I stumbled across a small café. The smell of fresh coffee caught my senses the second I got close to it, my stomach rumbled. I entered the small place, taking a seat at one of the few empty ones.
To my surprise, a waitress greeted me instantly. Her dusty pink lips spread into a gentle smile, "Hello, welcome to Lindy's. Here is your menu, call me when you're ready to order."
"I'll ju-" my scratchy voice cut off, I swallowed hard, clearing my throat "- Just a coffee."
She nodded, her blonde hair- held back in its high ponytail- swished. The smile never left her face, "Would you like that with milk, cream, or just black?"
"Milk," I mumbled, having to hurriedly clear my throat for my voice to actually come out. I averted my gaze, unable to return the smile.
That's what happens when you don't speak for over fifteen hours.
She returned shortly, placing the steaming cup of coffee in front of me. "Enjoy your coffee." She smiled, showing her pearly white teeth.
I watched her walk off, my eyes returning to my coffee. How was is possible to smile that much? It didn't even look fake. Then again, you're not a people person.
The smell off the coffee was making me hungry for actual food. I ignored the growling of my stomach, and cupped the coffee mug between my cold, pale hands, seeking warmth.
