Sean's P.O.V
"So what's the deal with you and PLT?" Tyler speaks into the phone.
"Ah, I dunno. She's just so... so annoying. And I don't understand her, but she's amazing. And I don't even frickin know her!"
"You have been hanging with her all day. Bein' her Deliverer and script and all. Man, you like her. You know you do." He's talking very loud, and very fast.
"I know, I know. Listen, Ty, calm down." I say, chuckling.
"She's not really your type though, don't you think?" He pushes. I roll my eyes, but then get lost in thought.
"Have you seen her eyes, Ty?" I whisper in recollection.
"She has a boyfriend on earth."
"I know." I sigh.
"I don't want you to get hurt again. Remember last time you fell in love?" He teases. But Bridget wasn't a laughing matter.
"I'm not falling in love again." I say sternly.
"Beggars can't be choosers..."
"Shut the fuck up!" I yell into the receiver, standing to pace the bathroom floor.
"You're leading her on."
"I know I shouldn't be leading her on."
"But..."
"She's just so..."
"Gorgeous, fun, lovable?"
"Exactly." We carry on discussing Jenna for a little while, and then suddenly I hear a noise from outside my bathroom door. I stand up thinking its Lauren or John, but when I get outside I see Jenna, hand on the door handle.
"Jenna?" I say, trying to keep a steady voice. She closes her eyes, but still has her hand firmly on the handle.
"Hi, Sean."
"What are you doing here?" she releases the handle and slowly turns on her heal towards me.
"I, uh...um, Tyler called and he said to tell you to call him." She stutters, and blushes. Blushes for you...? No, stop thinking that kind of shit. She doesn't like you, and you don't want a relationship. Pull. Yourself. Together.
"I've been on the phone with him for at least twenty minutes. When did he call?" I ask, trying to keep myself composed and my voice level.
"Like, ten minutes ago." She shrugs.
"How long have you been here?"
"I only just got here, and the door was unlocked, so I came in..."
"Never come in my room without me knowing again, Jenna. Ever." There are things I don't want you to find in here.
"Sorry. I knocked and you didn't answer. And when Tyler called he sounded pretty urgent."
"That makes no sense; I've been on the phone with him for a while." I say, frowning.
"Oh, maybe it was just a mistake then."
"Yeah, maybe."
See I know exactly what Ty is doing. He wanted her to hear what I was saying on the phone.
"Did you hear me on the phone." I blurt out. I can tell she's upset, and wants to leave.
"Uh... no?" she says. I'm not sure if it was meant to be a question though. "I'm gonna go." She points to the door before walking to it and leaving.
"Yeah." I say, and practically slam the door in her face. She had no right to come in here. I go over to the bed and kneel down, pulling out a box and examining the lid. It is a small chest like box, with a domed lid and a padlock. I have the key on a key chain round my neck, so I pull it off and finger the key.
Just open it, you wimp.
But I don't, I just stroke the lid and place it back under the bed.
Some things are better left untouched. If something's not broken, why fix it?
Just then, there's a knock on the door. I quickly push the chain back under my shirt and the box under the bed.
"Yeah?" Ty walks in and I immediately punch him in the arm. "What the hell, man?"
"Ah, you didn't like my plan?" he says, rubbing the spot on his arm where I hit.
"No, Ty, I did not like your plan. She came in here because I was on the phone and was about to leave when I caught her. She said you sounded urgent."
"And what'd you say?" He asks, grinning.
"I told her never to come into my room without permission again." His smile fades into a frown.
"Seriously, dude? She's gonna be well angry..."
"I know, Ty. But she could have seen the box."
"But she didn't. So it's fine."
"But she could've." I start pacing out of habit, kicking the rug on the floor a couple of times with my socked feet.
"Paranoid much."
"Ty, it's really important she doesn't find i-" I'm cut off by the phone ringing. "Hang on. I'm not done interrogating you." I go and pick up the phone. "Hello?"
"Sean?" Matt's voice speaks through the end of the phone.
"Yeah?"
"It's Matt."
"Oh, hi. Have you talked to the Frontrunners?" The eagerness must be apparent in my voice. I look over at Ty, his face clueless, though he knows about Jenna's job situation.
"Yeah... they want Jenna to go see them tomorrow at nine thirty."
"Cool, thanks, Matt."
"But you can't go with her."
"Why would I want to go with her?"
"Sean, Frontrunners are scary people. She's gonna get shouted at. Everyone does."
"She'll be fine..."
"You better hope so."
