I Meant Jenna

Sean's P.O.V

Today is the day. Today is the day I have to face Earth.

I have to say, it spread round Sky in record time, but I don't really give a damn. Jenna should have taken the time to think about who she was going to take. If she had asked me beforehand, I would have said no. Wouldn't I? After she told me about it, I was frozen stiff. What if I run into my family? What if I meet someone I know? What if I regret slitting my wrists and go into deep depression?

Lauren was pissed. She stormed into my room when I didn't go back to work yesterday and confronted me, then comforted me, then went off to confront Jenna. Did I care? To be honest I didn't really at the time. Lauren defiantly has the power to destroy Jenna, but I was too annoyed at her to care. I almost went after her, but decided against it... she deserves it, right?

I stand up and get out of bed, pulling on jeans and a black T-shirt with a hoodie. Then I make my way to the Front, where they're going to tell me and Jenna what to do. This will be interesting.

When I get outside the brick building, Jenna is already standing there with her head bowed, twiddling her thumbs. When I walk up to her, she glances up and gives me a stiff smile, which I don't return. I just walk past her through the automatic doors, hearing her footsteps behind me. When I get to the desk, I see Mrs Lynn sitting at the desk.

"Hi Sean! God, I haven't seen you in ages!" she says, standing up to give me a hug.

"It's nice to see you, Mrs Lynn." She punches my arm

"Kaleigh. I've told you once and I'll tell you again, Kaleigh. And who's this little one?" she asks, indicating Jenna.

"Oh, that's just Jenna. She's a newbie." I glance over at Jenna, the hurt on her face evident as she shakes Kaleigh's hand.

"Hi! I'm Kaleigh!" she says enthusiastically.

"Good morning."

"We were told to come here for our job. Soul collectors?" I add. Kaleigh sits down behind the desk again and types into her computer.

"Room six. Just down that hallway, third door on your right."

"Thank you." Just as Jenna and I start walking towards room six, I swear I hear Kaleigh whisper something to Jenna that sounded like 'He'll catch on, honey.' I knock on the black door, and hear someone yell from inside for us to come in. Jenna and I walk in, seeing a short man and a pretty middle aged women standing in front of a black circle.

"Sean Smith and Jenna Thatcher. Come in." the woman says. We walk over to them. "I'm Louise and this is Ted, it's nice to finally meet you."

"You too." I reply stiffly. Jenna gives a forced smile and nods.

"So, as you already know, you will be going down to earth today," she pauses, looking at us, "you're going to get there through this portal," she indicates the wall at the far side of the room, "but first we need to tell you what is expected of you..." the short man coughs and starts speaking, fiddling with his fingers nervously as he talks.

"Okay, your one and only job is to collect the souls of the people who have committed suicide, but need encouragement to get here. On earth, souls look like glowing orbs. When they get here, to Sky, they take on the form of people."

"How did we get here if there haven't been soul collectors in hundreds of years?" Jenna asks.

"That's the interesting part. Over the past couple of thousand years, the angels from heaven have sent the souls to Sky. That's why it's strange that your job is a soul collector- we haven't needed them in centuries. The angels also deal with the souls that don't want to see the light... the ones that aren't ready yet. Honestly, I don't think we need them now, but the Frontrunner's have decided... this," he continues, holding up a small silver notebook, "is where your assignments for each day will appear. They inscribe on the page when the being dies, and you will have a set amount of souls to collect each day. Then you use assigned portals to bring them back up here to Sky."

Louise takes over, "Now, there is the slight problem of if someone you know sees you... we can't do anything about that, you just have to make sure you see them first, or they don't recognise you."

"You seriously expect us to just 'dodge' the people we know?! Jenna's new!"

"People will just think they're hallucinating."

"Humans are a lot smarter now than before."

"Sean, if you have a problem, take it up with the Frontrunners."

"If I could change what Jenna has done, don't you think I would have already?!" I say, pointedly at Jenna.

"I didn't mean it." she whispers.

"But it's still ruining my life! Jenna, I was fine before you came, and now my life is messed up!"

"You wouldn't be here if your life wasn't messed up!" Jenna half yells, raising her head.

"MY LIFE WAS FINE UNTIL DANIEL DIED!" I look away, tears prickling my eyes at the thought of my brother.

"Sean, I didn't even know your brother, stop taking your anger out on me!"

"I'm angry because of you, Jenna!" selfish much.

"Look, I'm sorry, ok? I'm sorry I ruined your life in Sky, I'm sorry your brother left, I'm sorry I'm staying in his room, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!"

"Sorry doesn't always make it better, Daniel..." I realise my mistake, "Jenna. I meant Jenna..."
