The detention room was truly the worst room I had ever been in. It was a small box like shape. The two small windows only let a small breath of fresh air squeeze through. Its bare walls were painted a grey like a stormy rain cloud. There was no air conditioning, only an old fan that struggled to battle the heat of the summer. The room reeked of an almost tortures boredom. I sat there on one of the hard plastic chairs and stared at the blank wall.
I had been here many times before, not on my behalf of course. The teachers hated me and I hated them. One thing wrong and they would scream at me "Detention!!" Nobody ever got detention, except for me of course. I was the only one ever in the room. Apart from Mr Carter. The old detention teacher, who spent his time reading ancient books and snoring loudly as he slept. I looked over to him, his head was tilted back and soft snores could be heard. Typical. It could not get any more boring. I glanced at the clock on the wall. Only 25 minutes to go. Yeah 25 minutes of hell.
I sighed.
Why does this always happen to me?
Suddenly I heard faint voices coming from the door. That's odd. The door slowly creaked open and two people stepped into the room. A girl and my German teacher, Frau Adam. Oh God please help me. I struggled to look away from her deathly stare.
"Hello Mr Fischer, I've found some company for you,"
"Great," I replied, trying to sound as nice as possible. Which was quite difficult.
"Take a seat," Frau Adam instructed the girl.
I've never seen the girl before until now. She had chestnut coloured hair and eyes as blue as the ocean. She had freckles and looked quite shy. She looked quite beautiful, I'll admit.
The girl sat down a couple of seats away from me.
Mrs Adam quickly left through the doorway and slammed the door close.
Well this wasn't awkward at all. Silence set in.
I glanced over, she was twiddling her thumbs.
You are so hopeless.
"I guess he's not waking up any time soon," the girl suddenly said.
I stared at her.
Say something?!
"Ehh Yeah, he's always..." I cleared my throat, "Sleeping."
"Are you new here?"
"No, I've been at the school since year 8."
"I've never seen you around,"
"Yeahh"
You are the most awkward child ever.
Just say something.
"Have you had detention before?"
"No, this is my first time here,"
"Welcome to the club"
"Thank you, looks like a really fun club," She smiled.
I looked over to Mr Carter; he was drooling all over his shirt.
"See we even have our own entertainment," I said gesturing over to Mr Carter.
"Very nice," She laughed.
The loud bell suddenly rang through out the school. Mr Carter was startled and quickly got up from his chair.
"Okay students, detention over. Get out." He muttered as he slowly gathered his things and wiped the drool off shirt.
The girl and I got up and walked towards the door.
"Ladies first," I said gesturing for her to go first.
"Why thank you," She replied
"I didn't catch your name?" I quickly asked before she left.
"Victoria,"
"Marcus,"
We shook hands.
She smiled at me. She turned around and walked down the empty corridor.
Smooth.
