(I am thinking of removing this... I have been told it is not necessary, so it is at the back of the book so you can get right to the story. Any input is appreciated)
We are told unicorns, mermaids, and fairies never existed. Have you ever wondered why every culture has ancient tales of dragons and sea serpents? Have you ever wondered where the ideas of centaurs, cyclopses, and serpents originated? Have you ever wondered if our fairy tales weren’t just stories? What if hundreds of magical creatures used to live peacefully alongside humans, but slowly… disappeared?
There was once a time of peace and prosperity, when all the myths we know today were truths. Princesses and fair maidens lived side by side with magical fauns and enchanted nymphs. Knights in shining armor lived in peace with dragons, and sailors befriended sea monsters. Kings consulted wise wizards, and princes were tutored by magical centaurs.
However, this peace did not last for long. Soon the friendship between man and beast was tainted by man’s lust for wealth and power. Humans slowly forgot how to speak with animals, and began hunting and tormenting magical creatures. Unicorns were hunted until the remaining few were forced to hide in secret. Mermaids were killed and mummified as sailors’ souvenirs. Dragons were murdered by the hundreds, giving knights glory. All creatures suffered under humanity’s harsh hand, and were finally forced to build a place of their own… a dream land, free from the thoughtless wrath of the human race. A world where all mythical creatures could live in peace and harmony, where legendary endangered species could rebuild.
A separate dimension was created by the wizards, filled with all the luxuries and splendor of Earth. When the land was finally ready, the wizards teleported the remaining magical creatures one by one to the new world. The fairies built a wall of magical energy to surround the dimension, ensuring that no ordinary person could reach this place. The most magical of all creatures, the hudion, ruled this new world with his wisdom and prowess. The new world was christened ‘Aevynon,’ to honor the vision of a care-free world.
