I couldn't help it.
I couldn't control the tears that began to run down my face.
I couldn't believe what I just read.
I just couldn't do anything in that moment.
Victor immediately took me into his arms as he hugged me tightly and I sobbed into his shoulder.
My mother was killed by my own father. How on earth could he do that? They seemed so in love when she was still alive! Was it all an act? Everything was so confusing and I felt so drained and exhausted all of the sudden.
Victor noticed me sobering up from my sobs and picked me up bridal style dropping me on the couch and covering me with a blanket. He sat down next to my feet.
"Victor?" I asked with a hoarse voice.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"Why did you agree to it?" I asked. He remained silent, so I decided to elaborate. "Why did you agree to protect me? You didn't even know me."
He sighed. "Your mother came to my father and I and she was a mess. She had just figured out she was to be killed and all she could think about was you." He said which brought fresh tears to my eyes. My mother had always been such a selfless person, no matter the situation. When she knew she was going to be killed, of course I would be the first to go through her mind. Victor raised my feet up and put them in his lap. "She told us her situation and since my father was mayor, she asked for a protector of some sort for when you turn seventeen." He continued. "My father asked to see a picture and she dug through her purse and pulled out a picture of you." Victor smiled at the memory. "Your hair was cut at your ears and your teeth were all crooked, but to me, you were so beautiful." He said which made me blush fiercely. "I immediately said I would volunteer to protect you and I don't regret my decision. My father set up the arrangements and your mother left. She went back to her town and to her death." He said with a solemn look on his face. "I immediately began training. My father taught me all there was to know about Hallucaville's government, I began lifting weights, I learned how to shoot a gun, and I learned everything there was to know about you."
I stopped his story at that. "Woah, woah, woah. Now how did you do that last part?" I asked him. He cleared his throat causing me to narrow my eyes at him.
He sighed, but answered my question. "We had cameras set up in certain areas of town. Your living room." He said pointing to the tv. "Your elementary, middle, and high school. The pizza place you and your friends go to. We put them in all your friends' houses and we also had people secretly film you walking around." As he spoke, my eyes widened to saucers.
"So you have been spying on me for the past nine years?" I asked getting a little irritated.
"Nelly." He said with a pointed look. "Everything that has been done will all pay off in the end."
"Fine. Well if you really learned all there is to know about me, how about answering some questions?" I asked. He probably won't even be up to the challenge.
He rolled his eyes but agreed anyway.
"Favorite color?'
"Yellow."
"Favorite movie?"
"Hocus Pocus."
"Who is my third cousin on my dad's side's name?"
"You have two. Flynn and Cindy Graham."
I was shocked to say the least. "How in the actual heck did you know that last one? They live in California."
