So were full on cognates?
I think so. We'll ask Tiergan when we see him next.
"Guys, stop with the telepathic conversations when we're hanging out." Dex said, groaning.
"Are you jealous?" Fitz teased, and Dex scowled.
"Dex, we've gone over this." I warned. I needed them to get along.
"He knows everything about you and you two still need to converse in your heads! It's annoying."
"He does know everything about me. But that doesn't mean we have to talk to each other about stuff that is between us and only us out loud." I said, looking at my best friend.
"Sometimes I wish you two weren't cognates." Biana grumbled.
"Me too." Dex added.
"Me three. But what ARE cognates?" Jensi agreed.
"Two telepaths that use each other's mental strength to pull off tasks that are extremely hard or impossible to do by yourself. They have a special connection. Not everybody has one." Fitz explained. Jensi looked to me for confirmation. I nodded, and Jensi's eyes widened.
"So you and Fitz have a special connection?????" Jensi said, eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, that's why we're such good friends. That, and we've been through a lot together. And me and Dex, we've been through even more together, so that's why we're best friends. Same with Biana. It's just different. He knows everything about me-every little secret, down to where I hid my human sisters karaoke game back when I was little. I don't think she ever found it. He knows who I like, he knows my deepest regret, fear, everything. What I'm most proud of and ashamed of. Everything." I explained.
"Where DID you hide that game?" Dex asked.
"In my room, underneath my bed and under some blankets." I responded.
"Do you think it's in that storage area where they put your house, well what was in your house."
"Maybe, but I don't want to go get it."
You don't want to experience the memories again.
Yeah. I don't. But at least they're happy and safe.
Do you ever miss them?
Not really. Grady and Edaline replaced them. I used to, before everything happened with me and my parents.
You're good for them.
I've been told that a thousand times, Fitz.
You realize you've helped them more than you think write?
Your dad has told me that too.
My dad tells you everything.
They're my parents.
And Dex is your best friend. Shouldn't he know everything about you?
You know he'd spill about things.
I guess.
They're looking at us like they know what we're up to.
They alway look at us like that.
"GUYS. WILL YOU STOP TALKING IN YOUR MINDS! IF IT'S ABOUT KEEFE THEN YOU CAN SAY IT TO THE REST OF US." Biana said, getting annoyed.
"It wasn't about Keefe. It was about my human life, and my human parents." I said, leaning back in my chair.
You can tak to us about that too, you know." Biana said gently.
"It's not something that I like to talk about."
