*Alex's POV*

"I wonder what kinda girls this Glide place has. Probably no good ones. It's so stinkin' small! Why'd mom and dad force us to move up here again, Alex?"

"Because grandma is sick and mom wanted to be closer to her, Brent!" I replied to my brother rather sharply.

"Well, someone's in a mood!" He said eyeing my curiously.

"What did you expect?!" I exclaimed as we drove through a dense patch of trees. "Moving from L.A. to here is like moving into the middle of nowhere! No, it IS moving into the middle of nowhere! When I told Brandon this is where we were moving to, his response was 'Where the heck is that?!' that's what everyone's response was! The only reason I know where this stupid place is, is because we visited grandma once!"

"Listen bro, I'm not too happy about this either, but you better make the best of it. Because you know that even after grandma passes mom's not gonna want to leave. This is her home town, she grew up here. She's gonna fall in love with this place all over again!"

I didn't say anything back. I just stared out the window at the overcast sky, missing the sun. We'd moved up here about a month ago and for the first 3 weeks the sun shined pretty continually. But then a week before school started the clouds began ruling the sky.

Brent sighed. "Alex, you should at least give this place a chance, and if it doesn't grow on you and you continue to hate it, just remember you've only got 2 years of school left. After that you can leave."

That thought slightly brightened my day.

*A Few Minutes Later*

I slammed my door shut and looked at the high school we'd be attending. The only thing I could think was that it was so small compared to the high school my brother and I had attended! I looked around intently, absorbing every little detail. The parking lot was relatively small as was everything else. Two buildings were connected by a roof top type of a thing and there were a few tables and benches under the cover. People continually flowed in and out of the building getting everything in a row before the day began. And of course there were small groups of people socializing before the dreaded bell rang.

Sitting at the closest table was a couple of girls that were dressed in super short shorts and some tight, revealing shirts. They were chatting away and giggling their heads off. The louder of the two caught sight of my brother and I, her eyes got real wide, she whispered something to her best friend and then they both were staring at us. I slowly saw I look of lust creep into their bright eyes and they got up to meet us. I looked over at my brother and read all too clearly what he was thinking. Did he ever think of anything else? If this had been our other high school I would have walked away, but since I didn't know any of these people, I just stayed by my brother's side.

"Hello there." Said the taller of the two girls in a seductive voice.

"Hello ladies," my brother replied eyeing their bodies with a wicked smile. "What might your names be?"

"I'm Melanie." The short blonde said.

"And I'm Brittney." The tall brunette replied.

"I'm Brent. Brent Hoffman to be exact." My brother responded obviously trying to impress the two girls. But at that moment something knocked into my back causing me to take a step forward. I immediately twisted around to see what had hit me. All I saw was a red and white blur regain its balance then begin walking off. I heard a few people snicker at their 'triumph' of knocking the person into me and I think I heard the person who'd run into me say sorry. I watched the moving figure trying to decipher its gender. I couldn't tell if it was a girl or a boy because they had their hood on. But I quickly swung my head around when I felt Brent's arm jab me in the stomach. "Aren't you gonna introduce yourself?" Brent said looking at me then to the girls then back at me.

I looked at my brother blankly then I remembered what had been going on before that person had run into me. "Oh, and I'm Alex." I said nodding at the girls.

"What a nice name." Melanie said eying me hungrily.

"Um thanks." I said trying my hardest not to give her a funny look or to roll my eyes. I couldn't stand girls like these. Girls covered in more make up than cloths. Yeah, I was a lot different from my brother in that respect. Unfortunately for me, there had been a lot of those types of girls at our old high school.

After the conversation picked back up I began searching for the red and white blur again. I found it sitting at the bench where Brittney and Melanie had been sitting. Now that the person had taken their hood off I could see that the 'blur' had been a girl and as I studied her more closely I quickly realized I wanted to get to know her.
