I woke up to a sound in the trees beside me. I quickly strapped on my daggers and slowly creept outside. I saw no one, but an instinct told me that someone was definitely watching. I turned around as to throw whoever it was off. Sure enough, it worked. The figure crept out of it's hiding place and in one swift movement I pinned it against a tree, my dagger at his throat.
Now I can tell, it was a boy. Around my age. He had brown hair and the lightest brown eyes I have ever encountered. It was so pale, that it almost looked like yellow. The rest seemed to rise from their sleep to see what was the commotion.
Andrew raised his eyebrows as if he was slightly amused. Caroline seemed annoyed at the boy. "What. Is. That." She said, with pauses in between each word. I pushed my dagger nearer to his neck. "Speak." I demanded, and will not take silence for am answer. I narrowed my eyes into a death stare.
The boy was tapping furiously on the bark of the tree. I noticed that, and recognised it. Morse code. Don't kill me. Don't kill me. It seemed to say. I dropped my dagger. "Who are you?" I had asked, not very nicely if you had to know. He opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out. He swallowed a few times and tried again. Still nothing. He whimpered in the corner and looked like he was going to cry.
Leon took over though. He placed a hand on the boys arm. The boy flinched and squirmed away, fear radiating off him. His eyes showed such sorrow I couldn't even bare it. Leon frowned. "It's okay, I won't hurt you. My friends won't either." He saod gently. The boy opened his mouth, "C-can't t-t-talk to so m-many p-people at o-once..." he stuttered. I immediately took this as a trap.
"They're all staying whether you like it or not." I sneered. He curled into a ball, trying to get as far away as he can from me and the rest. Leon frowned at me like I had done something wrong. "What?"I asked. He shook his head, I understood him clearly, he wanted me to back off. No way mate. We had a silent argument, obviously Leon won. So I backed off, still eyeing the boy.
Leon and him exchanged a few words and the boy made a appled tree grow out from the ground beside him, it grew to full height and apples started growing out. The rest gaped in shock. He looked paler now though. Leon nodded at him and stood up. He turned towards us and said, "His name's Lief (lee-ef） McBeth. He's the earth element, a free roaming spirit."
"Woah, so there are free roaming spirits and our dear Edmerald never told us. I mean did you see Lea's face, she was totally going to kill him if Leon wasn't here." Caroline said, I stared at her like I was going to gut her. She took a step back, "Just sayin" Jasper rolled his eyes and muttered, "Way to go Caro, you made things so much better." Caroline turned to stare at him, and there they go again, quarrelling at the worst times posible.
Lief looked really uncomfortable with Caroline and Jasper quarrelling. The Diana twins seemed to take note to that too, so they each grabbed their ear and pulled them away. Andrew excused himself to go read his book and Raquel said she was going back to bed. That left me and Leon with Lief.
Once the rest were gone he seemed to ease up a bit. "Sorry...can't talk to more than two people at once..." he explained. I raised an eyebrow. "Why not?" Leon asked. Lief seemed embarrassed, "Not very social...lived in the forest since I was young...not good with...people.." he said. Leon smiled gently, "That's okay, I understand." Lief looked up. He looked doubtful.
"Do you know Edmerald?" I asked. He nodded warily. "We should take him back after the fight." I said. Lief looked alarmed now. "No,no, I...I can't...I don't... I don't want to go back." He said. "Why not?" Leon asked, obviously worried. Gee, that kid needs to be less kind. "I just...don't..."he whispered.
"Take him back to your tent, Leon. Let him camp with you for now. We'll discuss this later in the morning." I said. Leon nodded and resumed to convincing Lief that tents are not living beings. Honestly, why do I have to deal with this?
