Chasing Dreams - An Auslly Story

The beach trip part 2

Ally's POV:

These strange feelings I've had today aren't good. I have Jay. Jay, Jay, Jay....Austin's my best friend. Just my best friend.

Suddenly I felt a hand grab mine and I looked down in surprise. It was Austin's. A rush ran all the way from my hand up to my arm. Confused, I looked at him. "Is it ok if I do this?" He asked. "Well, were best friends after all," I said surprised by my own words.

But wait, what is he thinking? Why wouldn't it be ok? "Why wouldn't it be ok Austin?" I asked. He shrugged and bit his lip. "Well, I'm not sure how you and Jay are," he started. Wait what? He meant the hand holding in that way? Like a romantic gesture?

"Oh, don't worry about it," I said trying to think of a way to make this a friendly kind of thing and not a romantic one without having to let go. "Best friends are allowed to hold hands," I smiled intertwining my fingers into his and squeezing his hand.

I wanted to keep holding his hand but I didn't know why. Why did it feel so right?

Austin's POV:

I'm sitting here on the beach holding Ally's hand but I was still just majorly friend-zoned. I guess I can understand her not wanting to go down that road with me especially sense I'm leaving in less than two months. But maybe she just doesn't think of me like that. Maybe she never has. And maybe there's nothing I will ever be able to do about it.

"We need some music," Ally said sitting up. "That'd be nice," I agreed. I didn't want her to get up and let go of my hand because I'd probably never feel her hold it again. For some reason, it made me feel good. Well, she got up anyways.

She turned on the radio in the car and rolled down the windows. The song playing was Stereo Hearts. "No way!" She shouted excitedly. "They haven't played this song in a year!" I loved this song just as much as she did and she knew that.

When she came back to lay down with me, she grabbed my hand again and pulled me up onto my feet. "Lets dance!" She said as she starting doing her famous Ally Dawson dance right there on the beach. I laughed and started copying her, doing the dance with her. By the time the song ended, we were both out of breath.

Just the Way You Are came on next. "What is going on with all these old songs?" Ally smiled.

"I think they're having a special tonight where that's all they do."

Ally tried dancing to Just the Way You Are with her dance, again, but it's a slow song for slow dancing. I shook my head. "Ally this ones for slow dancing," I laughed.

"I don't have anyone to slow dance with."

"May I?" I smiled holding out a hand for her to take. I really wanted to dance with her-even in swim suites.

She smiled and took my hand. We got in position and began to sway. I was quietly singing and mouthing the words because I knew every single one. Ally even joined in every once in awhile and by the end of the song we were both belting out the words as loud as we could in a joking manner.

I smiled at Ally just to see her smile back. The sun was setting and the sky was filled with beautiful colors and designs. It felt like the world was revolving around us.

When the song ended, I was sad. But then Mirrors came on. "Wanna keep dancing?" I asked. Ally nodded. By the middle of that song, Ally's head was resting on my chest and I was trying my best to conceal my rapid heart beat. I sang the lyrics in a mockingly high pitched voice, "I don't wanna lose you now, I'm looking right at the other half of me..." Ally chuckled and started humming the tune.

I rested my head on Ally's and closed my eyes savoring the moment. I laughed when I remembered we were still in swim suites and when that song ended, we slowly pulled apart.

Ally's POV:

Dancing with Austin was magical. It's weird to say, but it really was. As we packed up our things to go because the sun had gone down, I was sad because I remembered once again that he was leaving.

"Austin, why are you leaving me, again exactly?"

He sighed. "I'm not any happier about it than you are. In fact, I'm actually very bummed. There are so many things I wish I could change..."
