It feels like an apocalypse.
The floors are empty; everything is dark and silent enough for you to hear the beating of your own heart. I trail behind Matthew who is holding up his flashlight for us to see where we're going.
"We have to go up one floor." Cole says pointing his flashlight to the non-moving escalators.
The boys continue walking while I try to drag my feet their direction despite the coldness and anxiety I am feeling. I wrap my hands around my arms to warm myself but it isn't help the chilly feeling I have.
Beside me, Trent keeps on shaking his head obviously not liking this plan as much as I am.
I swear, we're siblings with different parents, if that's even possible.
"We're gonna be so screwed if we get caught." I nod agreeing to what he just said. "Let me rephrase that, I'm so screwed if we get caught."
"Nah, you're gonna be good Trent. Besides, we're not gonna get caught." Josh pats Trent on the back and he flinches in response.
"Yeah Trent, you're parents won't even notice that we we're here." Matthew adds with a small smile.
"Sure, like they won't." Trent sighs. "But, what can I do? We're already here." He finally gives up on the fact that he can't make his friends turn back.
I let out a sigh too, because that means I won't be haled safe until they're done with their mischief. Or until the cops come here, but how will I be safe then right?
"Mhm, and don't you guys, you know own this place? It's just like trespassing your own home." Cole turns his head to face us as he states his point. Trent furrows his eyebrows and takes a deep breath.
"Yeah, but it's still trespassing." He let out. Good Point. Plus, Cole's excuse was totally invalid. I look around the mall for the first time and flinch. Wait, they own this mall?
"Wait, you own this place?" I ask him in confusion. Trent looks at me with a small smile and nods. "How come you never told me?" I raise an eyebrow a bit surprised and a bit hurt. Trent usually tells me the things that go on with his family. I'm one of the people he can just open up, whether he needs an ear to listen to him or someone to give him some decent advice. I'm always there for him. So for him to not tell me is like, well it's just new.
He slings his arm onto my shoulder and pulls me into a warm hug. "Sorry, I was going to tell you tomorrow. But since you're here now, yeah. We bought this place just a day ago. And now, my friends here are going to rob it while I, the son of the owner, is watching. Isn't that bizarre?"
I hug him back knowing that this would help my chilly feeling go away and sigh, "It's absolutely bizarre." I pull away from our hug and smile at him, "In fact some part of me feels like I'm still dreaming. Like this isn't really happening and maybe I hit my head on something back in the storage room and now I'm imagining all of this."
"Hm, too bad you're not."Matthew calls out from in front of us and I roll my eyes. Why does he have to ruin every moment?
I pull Trent's hand and we both catch up with a group. I settle down beside Matthew and shoot him daggers with my eyes, "I wasn't talking to you dumb arse."
He lets out a bitter laugh and says, "You could have just said ass you know?"
"Yeah, but I don't want to." I hiss and cross my arms. I cuss but I know when and what instances to use them. Like when Matthew tried to (and succeeded) to kidnap me and some other events where I just need to let it out.
For example, there was this one time where Nov, Jas and I were having a sleep party (it's not a sleepover because when that happens no one really sleeps. A sleep party is where we hang out for a couple of hours and well, sleep.) and I went into the bathroom for a while. Afterwards, when I opened the door and stepped out. I got caught in a web of clear tape from head to toe. I let out a few colorful words to the two for making me pull out tape from my hair and body.
