He sat at the couch once again. She was out again. The pictures on her phone. She wasn't coming home. He took another sip of the alcohol. The substance almost burned down his throat. But he kept on drinking nonetheless.

He didn't have a drinking problem. But it helped him forget about her for a moment. He let the substance take control. He stared at the blank television screen. He couldn't fathom a thought at all. He was as blank as the television screen. He couldn't think.

It tore him apart. He knew but he didn't admit it. She's still been away. She hasn't been back yet. He missed her. He missed the feeling when they were together, cuddled up in the blankets watching a movie.

He missed the feeling of when he kissed her. The kisses that lasted an eternity and were full of passion. The burning flame was going strong.

But the light had to end. After all, a fire that burns that bright isn't meant to last. The spark had died. But he didn't admit to it. He believed the spark was there. He didn't feel it. But it had to be there. He loved her. She loved him. She said so.

He almost threw his beer bottle across the room but then the door opened. He turned his head to see her. She shut the door behind her.

She sat down next to him at the couch. She sat down next to him. An uncomfortable space between them and an awkward silence had arrived.

She couldn't look him in the eyes. Not this time. She rubbed her arm. She looked over at his blank stare. He seemed just as empty as her. The love that had filled them had died. It wasn't there. Non-existent.

No.

It was still there. She loved him. He loved her. He didn't know, he could still love her. If she tried. She laid her head on his shoulder. She wrapped her arms around his upper body. She surprised herself. She couldn't let go. But she couldn't pull him closer.

Usually when they did this he would relax. But his blank stare had not changed. He got up and left the room, no words escaping his lips. She felt the tears brim her eyes. The tears were burning. She shut her eyelids, letting a few flow onto her cheeks. She wiped them away, getting up and leaving the room as well.
