Tender tones for my young eardrums
Eternally entrenched in my neuronal network
Happy, sad and frustrated time bombs
Worry, fear, disappointing quirks
You gave me your sounds to imprint
You gave me your casual words
I took your voice to bed and in my brain
Converted these sounds to meaning
For my world.
Hello, you said, how are you cutie?
Hello, you said to me, with glee
Hiya, you added, hiya and bye-a
Please and thank you merrily
You helped me to grasp my surroundings
You helped me though I did not know how
Your grammar and articulations
And off the cuff punctuations...
At night you sang your songs
At night, what could go wrong?
When I listened to your sweet serenade
It tickled my tongue more than tart lemonade
So soon I formed my own sounds
Soon enough I accompanied
Then when your voice touched my soul
I no longer needed to be carried...
My voice carried you to your rest.
Your voice now lives inside of mine.
