Chapter 1: Coming Home

Riley's P.O.V
I couldn't help but be excited as I pulled into the driveway of my old house. Home at last. I'm sorry I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Riley Annabelle Matthews. I'm 29 years old. I have short blonde hair and blue eyes. I'm 5,4. I'm short for my age. But I also have a little surprise for my old friend, Chris. Let's just say I had a bundle of joy who is almost 3. Her name is Emma. She has beautiful long curls. Her nickname is Goldie Locks. My sister Emily calls her that all the time. Alice calls her Snow since she loves snow and Christmas. I climbed out of the car and opened the back door to smile at my baby girl.
"Wake up, Emmy" I said tickling her sides.
"Mommy!" She said as I unbuckled her seat belt from her car seat. I picked her up and balanced her on my hip. I shut her door and carried her up to the front door of the house. I opened the door with excitement.
"AUNT EMILY!" Emma yelled as Emily, my sister who is 1 year older than me, walked out into the open.
"EMMA!" Emily screamed as I set Emma down and allowing her to waddle over to her favorite Aunt. I couldn't help but laugh, "Chris is in the backyard with Madison and Jayden."
"Thank you" I said walking to the back door. I stood there watching as my 10 year old nephew tackled my best friend. I couldn't help but laugh as my 6 year old niece ran across the yard with a football in hand.
"Touch down!" She said throwing down the football. She's like her mother. A tomboy. She loves sports and video games. She is just a younger and girl version of her brother. I remember playing football with Chris and his brother, Scott.
"You're playing football without me! How rude!" I said as Madison and Jayden froze at the sound of my voice.
"AUNT RILEY!" They both screamed running running at my at full speed. They both tackled me to the ground.
"You two are getting big" I said kissing their cheeks.
"Riley?" Chris asked making me smile.
"Chris?" I asked standing up.
"You've returned" he said smiling, "we had a bet."
"I know we had a bet!" I said.
"And you lost" he said tossing the football back and forth with himself.
"And I owe you $5 and two tubs of ice cream" I said before tackling him in a hug, "I've missed you meatball!"
"I missed you too, Cinderella" Chris said.
"You still remember that awful nickname" I said.
"Of course I gave it-"
"Mommy!" Emma said running into the backyard and jumped on me.
"Uh... Chris meet my daughter, Emma" I said as Emma smiled widely at Chris.
"When did you have a daughter?" Chris asked smiling as he picked up Emma with excitement. He loves kids.
"About 2 years ago. She's almost 3" I said tickling Emma's arm making her giggle.
"Emma, this is Chris. He's my best friend" I said.
"Hi Chris" Emma said.
"Hi Emma" Chris said. My oldest sister Alice walked out of the house and almost dropped her plate of strawberries and chocolate.
"RILEY ANNABELLE MATTHEWS!" My sister said as she put her plate on the table and waddled down the steps. She's pregnant. With twins.
"Hey Watermelon!" I said.
"Jerk" she said hitting my arm, "I know I'm fat you didn't have to point it out."
"I'm joking, Alice" I said as Chris put Emma on the ground and she ran for her Aunt.
"Hi Aunt Alice" Emma said.
"Hey Snow" Alice said messing up her niece's blonde hair. We all went back inside to talk some more and eat dinner.
"So Cinderella, how long you staying?" Chris asked as we watched Emma play with her cousins.
"Well. We're moving here. Normally we'd be in LA but I rather be here with family and friends. I've been trying so hard to give Emma the best life" I said.
"Hey! Riley! I can help. You know I love kids! I could help you" Chris suggested.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Yes I'm sure. I haven't seen you in years so I think it's the nicest thing I could do" he said smiling.
"Oh Chris! I missed you so much" I said hugging him tightly, "hey do you want to help us pick out an apartment?"
"An apartment? Why don't you just move in with me?" Chris asked.
"We're getting ahead of our selfs. I think for now I'm just gonna settle down with a small apartment for a little bit until we can find a nice house" I said.
"Alright. I'll help" he said as Emma ran over to us with excitement.
"But for tonight... We'll stay with you" I said smiling.
"Deal" Chris said picking up Emma. I gave my siblings hugs and kisses goodbye. Also I gave my dear nephew a bunch of kisses just to annoy him. Madison always gives me a small little kiss. The three of us walked back to the car and I put Emma back in her car seat. I let Chris drive since it's been a while. After a little while we arrived at a nice house that was ready for Christmas.
"Oh wow! It looks amazing!" I said as we got out of the car. I opened Emma's door and took her out of her seat. She was fast asleep. Chris grabbed our bags from the back and carried them to the front door. When we got inside the feeling of warmth hit my face.
"Here I'll show you to the guest room" Chris said as he carried the bags up the stairs. We entered a large bedroom.
"Oh wow. Chris you didn't have to give me this room" I said as he put the bags down.
"I didn't have too. But I wanted too" he said.
"Thank you" I said putting Emma down on the bed.
"I'll leave you to get ready for bed and everything. If you want I'll make some hot chocolate" he said smiling.
"You're not doing it alone" I said as he walked toward the door.
"Fine" he said walking out and closing the door. I walked over to the bed and unzipped my suit case. I pulled out a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. I took out a pair of footsie pjs for Emma.
"Hey Embug. Wake up" I said poking my baby girl. Emma groaned tiredly before she opened her blue eyes. Once she was changed the two of us walked out of the room and down the stairs. Chris was in sweatpants and a sweater. Emma held onto my hand as she hopped down the wooden stairs. Emma excitedly ran over to Chris as he poured her a cup of hot coco.
"Hello Cap" I said walking over.
"Oh no" he said.
"Oh yes" I said, "I've seen that movie so many times."
"What other movies of mine have you seen?" He asked.
"SnowPiercer!" I said as Emma took a sip of her hot coco. Chris picked her up and sat her on the counter. I drank from my cup and smiled. I took a cup of hot coco up to the room with me. Chris pulled out a baby bed for when his sister's visited with their kids. I laid Emma in the little playpen and dropped a blue blanket over her. I also gave her the teddy bear my mother had gotten her before something bad happened. I put the mug on the bedside table and opened up my laptop. I looked through apartments for sale so we could get out of Chris's hair. I found a cute apartment that has 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, and a living room. I was actually very excited about getting started here in Boston. Especially with Emma. It was her first Christmas in Boston. I looked over at my little Sleeping Beauty. I couldn't help but smile. I closed my computer and put it on the table. I turned off the lamp and then got comfortable. Soon drifted to sleep. I was glad to be home.
