It began on my 15th birthday... The day I came home to something that would change my life forever.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

"I'm sorry Leo, I always spend my birthday with my family, you know that..." I said firmly, not looking directly at him. Leo was my only friend, due to the fact that I was so aggressive and rude to most other people. He was also my boyfriend, but there was one thing I always put in front of him... My family. The worst part was I was completely oblivious to how much it hurt him.

"But I planned this just for us..." He whined, ice blue eyes glazed with sadness. "Can't you just come this once?"

"No... Now I have to go." I frowned, hugging him tightly. "Я люблю тебя..." (I love you...) I added, starting to feel guilty.

"It's fine." He sighed, kissing my forehead. "Я люблю тебя." (I love you.)

I grabbed my winter jacket, slipping it over my shoulders and walking off. (I pretty much wore it all the time considering this IS Russia...) I avoided glares from the other girls who were jealous of me. I didn't really understand why other than the fact that I was dating, Leo. He WAS the person most everyone dreamt of going out with... Except for me, which I guess worked out.

My boots made crunching noises in the snow as I trudged towards my house. The wind was harsh, slapping against the exposed skin on my face. My house was in view by this point. A large cabin, (Which was really a mansion if you ask me.) that glistened as beads of snow trickled onto it. When I reached the front door, I happily stepped inside.

"Hello?" I chirped, taking slow steps towards the kitchen. "Where are yo- Что, во имя России-матушки!?" (What in the name of Mother Russia!?) The smell of something metallic hit my nose... Blood. I ran into the kitchen, but every moment seemed to be in slo-mo. By the time I reached the room, the smell of blood was so strong I almost threw up.

My father, my mother, and my brother Noah all lie lifeless on the floor in front of me, drowned in a pool of their own blood. I was paralyzed from shock, beginning to shake violently. Why would someone do this? My mind whirled when I tried to think of people with motive. There's no way any of those jealous girls could take my father, my teachers don't hate me... That much, Leo wouldn't dar- Leo.

"Нет... Нет!" (No... No!) I cried, crashing to my knees as I came to the realization. Leo did this, I knew he did. My heart stopped when I looked over at the cake. It read:

'Неужели я первая сейчас?' (Am I first now?)

"Surprised?"

"Ты ублюдок..." (You bastard...) I growled, facing him. "I knew I should've never trusted you..."

"Baby, don't blame yourself. Now we can be together, just me and you." Leo purred, hugging me tightly. I thrashed against his grip, going into panic mode.

"Let go of me!" I cried helplessly. He clamped his hand over my mouth, using his other hand to hold me in place.

"Just calm down baby. You're in shock..." He cooed, kissing my cheek. "Shhhhh..."

"Mrrmph!" I tried to scream through his hand. When I heard the front door open, I lost it.

"Madie?" I heard I voice say. My uncle.

"Don't move, don't say a word." Leo hissed, hugging me tighter into his chest, standing up. He silently stepped into the backyard, when someone appeared right behind him.

"Get your hands off my niece." My uncle growled from behind Leo, grabbing a fistful of my his shiny black hair. He threw Leo to the ground, a blade hovering over his head in about five seconds.

"I would kill you, but I believe my niece deserves her revenge. But, you did kill my brother." He frowned, retracting the blade into the underside of his wrist. He smashed his boot into Leo's chest, who proceeded to cough up a mess of blood. I'd never seen him so broken before. He wiped his bottom lip, trying to stand, but fell back unconscious.

"U-uncle Nikolai?" I stammered, feeling tears well up in my eyes. I felt so weak in that moment. I had never cried before, not even when I was a baby. It felt so foreign to me.

"It's okay, it's okay." He repeated, pulling me into a hug. I melted into his embrace, taking heavy breaths. I looked back to Leo, feeling a pang of hatred inside of me. Nikolai shielded my view of him, trying to keep me from breaking down any further.

"I didn't know you could do that... What in the world is on your wrist?" I asked.

"This? It's a hidden blade. But it's not important right now... Let's just get you out of here."
