An eery blanket of silence covered the room, Alan and Austin could hear nothing but the struggled gasps of their own breath. Austin fell on to his knees, the weight of his injuries seeming to suddenly crash down on him.

Alan felt nothing, he felt so cold that, for a moment, he could only stand and stare at his surroundings in disbelief. A muffled cry of pain emitting from Austin immediately snapped Alan out of his daze, and he stumbled over to his love.

Lost for words, they stared into each others eyes for a moment, before Austin crumpled in pain once again.

"What is it? What can I do?" Alan grabbed at Austin, desperate for him not to fall unconscious.

His chest heaving, Austin uttered a single word, "Blood."

As soon as the word met his ears, Alan offered his arm to Austin, "Take it."

A warm smile spread across Austin's face at this gesture, but he shook his head and pointed towards the body laying a few feet away. Hardly believing he could have forgotten about it, Alan stood up and approached the corpse.

Grimacing, Alan took a hold of the deceased vampires arm and began to drag the body closer to Austin. The body jerked and for a split second Alan thought he saw it's open glassy eyes flash red. Alans heart spasmed but he closed his eyes, telling himself he imagined it, and continued to pull the lifeless body.

Once the corpse was close enough, Austin greedily sunk his fangs into the flesh and drank. Alan watched him, slightly fearing his animalistic ways but still loving him to pieces.

After a few minutes Austin stopped, yet again out of breath, but there was colour in his face and life in his eyes. Gingerly, he got to his feet and smiled.

Alan stared for a moment, before walking towards Austin and into his arms. They stayed that way for a while, just taking in what had happened in the past half an hour.

Eventually Austin spoke, "Alan?" He stroked the smaller mans hair absentmindedly, "Isn't it about time you went to bed?"

Alan, still somehow lost for words, nodded and allowed Austin to lead him into the room he had a whole year before. Only once they were cuddled up beneath the sheets did Alan speak, "What happened?" Suddenly all the questions he had flooded back into his consciousness.

"You tell me first, how did you know to come?" Austin questioned, smiling slightly.

"Well..." Alan started reluctantly,"I didn't get a letter from you, after the first day it was fine, but after a week woth no letters I knew something must be wrong." He looked down bashfully, but Austin cupped his chin, bringing his head up until their eyes were level. "I was goig to come and see you anyway, for halloween."

Austin leaned down and kissed Alan carefully on the lips, "You were amazing tonight." he mumbled, and Alan smiled.

Leaning back Austin sighed, the smile fading from his lips, "Now I'll tell you how I got into this mess."

"Since I've been here for a good few hundred years withiut joining a clan, the vampires started to get suspicious. It's very rare, a solitary vampire. Of course, they didnt know about you." He looked disapointed, perhaps in himself, but continued, "Anyway, I got letter after letter containing so many invasive questions and sometimes even threats, but I replied to none. I can't beleive I didn't see it coming, but the American clan leader sent one of his servants to see if I was actually here. At first I thought it might be you when I heard the door open, but just in case it wasn't, I stayed upstairs in my study - I was actually in the middle of writing a letter to you." Alan smiled at this fact, but continued to listen intently.

"After no body called out, I became concerned, and before I knew it, a scrawny looking vampire was in my study.

He said something like 'ah yes, master will be very pleased' and went to go, but I stopped him and asked what he was doing. He said that he had come on behalf of the leader of the American vampires, and that I was in trouble...Before I could ask any more, he had gone.

For a few days I waited in fear, knowing there was nothing I could do, and eventually he turned up. Again, I was writing a letter when he came and noticed me trying to brush them away. He read the one I was writing and exploded with rage. Not only had I disrespected him by not joining a clan, but I am also in love with a human, which is considered the most disgusting thing a vampire can do."

Alan looked up at Austin with eyes full of guilt and horror.

"It's okay, you're worth it." Austin smiled.

"So he got out some holy water he had and threw it straight at me," Alan let out a little gasp, "I cannot explain the agony it caused, its like having your skin peeled of and your throat strangled viciously at the same time. Then I was considerably weak, and had no energy to fight back. He took advantage of this and continued to torture me in every way he could think of. Somedays he just left me barely alive, alone, others he crammed in as much as he could: he beat me, burnt me, shone daylight on me, and starved me.

I don't know what he was planning to do with me, probably kill me, if you hadn't have got here..." Austin trailed off and was once again smiling at Alan.

"I don't know what to say, I'm so sorry I didn't come sooner." Alan said, his voice trembling with shock.

"Don't be silly! It's a miracle you didn't get killed today!" Cried Austin.

"I know..." Mumbled Alan, "So what happens now?"

"I don't know, lets just take everything as it comes." Austin concluded, burying his head in the crook of Alans neck.

They stayed in each others arms the entire night, and felt closer than they ever had before.
