Surviving an Apocalypse

Chapter 1:The beginning of the end

"ZOMBIES!!!!!" That was the scream that started it all. An hour before this was the beginning of the infection. The infection spread person to person in seconds. The cause of the infection is unknown. Many people didn't know an infection was spreading, including students at Ernie Davis Middle School. Which is where this story takes place.

Its a Thursday afternoon at EDMS, students are hurrying to their next class before the late bell rings. To many students this is their lunch period and they don't have to worry about being late. Some students goof off while waiting for friends, like in the beginning of this story. "Gaabbbbbbbyyyyyyy, give me fooood!" Danielle whined. "I don't have any." Gabby replied smiling. "Fine! I'll go beg Megan!" Danielle said as she skipped away. In her head she was probably thinking about One Direction. "Danielle can be weird sometimes." Miranda said over hearing their conversation. "Yeah, but that's our Danielle." Gabby replied still smiling.

"Where's is Megan?" Danielle asked walking back over to the girls. "I don't know." Gabby answered. "She's probably still up stairs at her locker. I saw her there." Erin replied from behind Miranda.

"Well whats taking her so long?" Gabby asked. "We should get in line for lunch before the line gets too long." Miranda said. "Alright." Danielle replied. "But what about Megan?" Gabby asked. "I'm sure she'll be down soon." Danielle answered. Gabby nodded and started to follow Danielle and Miranda.

Suddenly out of no where, Megan races down the staircase toward the cafeteria. "NO RUNNING!" A lunch monitor screamed at her. Some students stopped to see what the commotion was. Megan falls to floor gasping for air. Her ear buds are roaring with the song Nightmare, by Avenged Sevenfold. Gabby, Danielle and Miranda rush to her side and help her to a table.

"Megan, are you alright? What happened? Why were you running?" The girls questioned. "I....saw....I saw a........" Megan replied breathing heavily. "Its OK, take your time and breath." Danielle said trying to calm Megan.

Across the cafeteria, a group of lunch monitors whispered quietly, then their radio's sounded with screaming. Some of them ran off tending to the radio call, while others stayed alert and watched the students. "Whats going on?" Erin asked reaching for Trea's arm. "I don't know." Mirage answered.

From down the hall, a high pitched female scream echoed toward the cafeteria. "What the heck was that?" Nik asked. A bunch of other students started to panic. "EVERYONE PLEASE REMAIN CALM! Were going to see what that scream was. Its probably nothing more than a prank, so stay calm and don't go any where." A lunch monitor yelled. The rest of the lunch monitors that were in the cafeteria left to investigate the scream.

After a few minutes the lunch monitors did not return. The students waited longer, but still they didn't return. Only a girl with light brown hair and a Harley Davidson shirt came out of the hallway and entered the cafeteria crying.

"Abby? Is that you?" Miranda asked worried. The girl looked up at Miranda. It was indeed Abby, her face was red and her eyes were full of tears. "Abby, whats wrong?" Miranda asked hugging her. Abby shook her head and kept crying in Miranda's arms. "Abby?" Gabby asked concerned. Danielle walked over to Abby and put her hand on her shoulder trying to comfort her. The other students remained silent, only listening to full fill their curiosity.

Megan, still trying to breath, yelled for Danielle's attention."Danielle, I need to speak with you. Now!" She yelled urgently. Danielle left Abby's side and went over to Megan."What is it?" Danielle asked. "Upstairs I saw something horrible." Megan replied upset. "What did you see?" Danielle asked. "I saw a........."

Megan's words trailed off as the lights started to flicker. "TURN THEM BACK ON!!! TURN THEM BACK ON!!!!!!" Gabby screamed panicking. "Gabs, calm down. They'll come back on soon, I'm sure its just a black out." Danielle replied.

Sliding noises started down the hall and spooked some of the students. "Is anyone gunna see what that sound is?"Kaytlin asked frightened. "Alex, you go check." Maggi said pushing Alex toward the sound. "Why me? Why not Waffle?" Alex asked. "HEY!!!" Jackson yelled hitting Alex. "Hey! No fighting!" Danielle yelled at the two boys. "I think the sound is getting closer." Mirage said frightened. "ALEX, GO LOOK!!" Maggi yelled in a desperate voice. "Fine, Dust mite." Alex replied starting to make his way toward the sound. Maggi gave him a face and crossed her arms.

Alex slowly peeked into the hallway where the sound was occurring. "What do you see?" Micheal asked. Alex turns around to face Micheal. "I cant see anything. Its too dark." Alex answered. A few minutes after he stopped speaking, the sliding sounds stopped as well. The light above Alex suddenly came back on to reveal two dark figures behind him.

"Alex, who's that behind you?" Maggi asked confused by the dark figures behind him. Alex quickly turned to face the figures.

The one girl had short blond hair and a t-shirt that said Have a coke and a smile. The other girl had a mixture of colors in her hair and wore a striped shirt. Their clothes were covered in what appeared to be blood. Most of the blood was around their mouth, which was open ready to feast upon Alex.
