Surviving an Apocalypse

Chapter 6: The Great Sacrifice

    They all waited quietly behind the desks, waiting to see what events would play out next.

    "Wait here. I'll check the room out." A voice ordered. "Is anyone in there?" The voice asked. They all remained silent. "Groff?" A different voice called.

    The light suddenly came back on, but they remained in hiding. Gabby decided to take a peek to see who was there, but before she could look Danielle and Megan pulled her back.

    "Woolever, you guys made it! Did you find any food?" Mr. Groff asked. "Are they with you?" Ryan asked Mr. Groff. "Oh yeah, you were unconscious when I told the kids." Mr. Groff replied. "FOR THE LAST TIME WERE NOT KIDS!!" Maggi yelled angrily. Miranda and Abby quickly put their hand over Maggi's mouth.

    "Who's that? Did you find more kids?" Woolever asked. "There with me. You guys can come out now." Ryan said. They all got up and walked over to the others.

    "Reka, Kaytlin! You guys are OK!" Gabby yelled running over to them. "Yep still here." Reka said smiling. Kaytlin smiled too. "Alex your still alive, I thought you would be dead by now." Jackson said. "Very funny, I'll remember that the next time were almost killed!" Alex shouted. "Hey two year old's! Knock it off and stop fighting!" Danielle yelled. "Shh Danielle. Are you trying to get us killed? There are zombies still out there." Woolever reminded her. "Sorry, I'm not used to dealing with kindergartner's." Danielle replied.

    Growling and moaning sounds start in the hallway near them. "Now ya done it!" Alex yelled. "Everyone that has a gun get up front, and everyone else go in the back behind us." Ryan ordered. Mr. Groff grabbed his baseball bat and got ready. Woolever also readied her weapon. "I have a spoon, does that count as a weapon?" Gabby asked holding up a spoon. "No Gabs, you cant kill zombies with a spoon." Danielle answered smiling. "What are you gunna do? Scoop their guts out?" Megan asked. "Well, yea....." Gabby started to say, but was stopped by Abby covering her mouth.

     "Zombies incoming!" Miranda yelled pointing to the door. "Stay calm and lets kill some zombies!" Reka shouted excitedly. "Hey Reka, want a Twinkie before you kill some zombies?" Danielle asked. "Heck yeah, I want a Twinkie!" Reka replied grabbing a Twinkie from Danielle. "Danielle, did you seriously just give Reka a Twinkie when were about to be killed?" Megan asked upset. "Sorry." Danielle answered. "Sorry? Sorry is not gunna get me a Twinkie! You are! So.....can I have a Twinkie?" Megan asked puppy eyed. "Yeah here you go." Danielle said throwing her a Twinkie. Megan opened it and ate it happily. "Reka and Megan, stop eating Twinkies and think of a way out of here!" Maleah shouted. "Your just jealous you didn't get a Twinkie." Megan said pouting. "Just be ready for the zombies." Maleah replied.

    From across the room Gabby is looking out the window at two people down in the street. "Are they people?" She asked. "Huh?" Megan asked walking over to Gabby. "They look like Erin and Trea." Gabby replied. "That's because it is Erin and Trea." Megan said happily. "Hey get out of the window!" Mr. Groff shouted.

   "Zombies!!" Maggi yelled as zombies started entering the room. "Everyone open fire!!!" Ryan ordered. They all started shooting, while Gabby, Danielle, Megan, Abby, Maggi, and Miranda hid in the back of the room.

   "There's a lot of them!" Jackson yelled over the sound of the gun fire. "We should retreat!" Alex yelled. "To where? Were in a sealed room! The only way out is through that door!" Woolever shouted. "No, we can go out the window!" Maggi yelled pointing to the fire escape window. "Good thinking! Only problem is were on the highest floor of the building! Do you expect us to jump?" Abby asked. "No, maybe we can climb down." Maggi answered.

   "OK its settled! Everyone out the window now!" Ryan ordered. "Is it a good time to mention that were all afraid of heights?" Miranda asked nervously opening the fire escape window. "Just go ya big baby!" Micheal said pushing Miranda out the window. "Hey!" Miranda yelled holding on to the window. "Go!" Danielle shouted to Miranda. Miranda continued to climb down the side of the building until she reached the ground. "Abby, your next!" Megan yelled helping Abby out the window.

   "Girl's hurry up! We cant hold them off forever!" Ryan yelled struggling to reload his weapon. "Were going as fast as we can!" Danielle shouted.   "Well go faster!" Ryan shouted back.

   "Megan, Maggi, I want you two to get Gabs out the window, then follow behind her." Danielle ordered picking up the backpack full of supplies and handing it to Megan. "But what about you?" Megan asked taking the bag. "I don't wanna lose any of my friends, so I'm going last to make sure that you all get out." Danielle replied. "But....." Maggi started to say. "Just go, I'll be down soon!" Danielle yelled. Megan nodded and went to the window with Gabby and Maggi.

    "Gabs, lets go. Your first." Maggi said grabbing Gabby's arm. "I...... change my mind! Going out the window is a terrible idea! I can barley climb a tree right with out falling!" Gabby said panicking. "I don't care if you fall every time you walk! Gabs, you are going out that window!" Megan yelled angrily. "But I don't know how to climb down a building! I've never done it beeeffffoorrreeeee........." Gabby screamed as Maggi pushed her out the window.

   "MAGGI! We were supposed to help her out. Not push her!" Megan yelled angrily. "Whoops..." Maggi replied. Both of the girls then quickly looked to see if Gabby was OK. "Gabby, you dead yet?" Maggi yelled down to her. "I'M OK! OWWWWWIIIEEE.........." Gabby answered. " Miranda, Abby, watch Gabby. Were coming down." Megan yelled to the girls. Megan, with the help of Maggi climbed her way down.

    "Reka, can you help me out the window?" Maggi asked. Reka nodded and quickly made her way over to Maggi. "Reka, give me your gun. I can help the others!" Danielle said. "Take it while I help Maggi." Reka replied. "Wait Reka, I don't have a good grip." Maggi said hanging out of the window.

   Behind Reka, Danielle takes her gun and starts randomly shooting zombies. "Say hello to my little friend. I always wanted to say that!" Danielle yelled.

  "Ya good now Maggi?" Reka asked letting go of Maggi. "Yeah." Maggi answered continuing to climb down.

   "Alex, Micheal, get through the window! I'll cover you!" Danielle shouted. Micheal and Alex quickly climbed out, then Reka followed behind. Maleah, and Kaytlin went out next. Followed by Jackson and Caleb.

   "Danielle, get out of here! Go!" Ryan ordered. "But what about you guys?" Danielle asked. "Just go! We'll be right behind you!" Woolever replied. Danielle nodded then went out the window.

   "Woolever, Ryan, go! I'm not gunna lose anyone anymore! If I'm gunna die, I'm going down a hero! Make sure I'm remembered in history!" Mr. Groff shouted as he charged the zombies with his baseball bat then disappeared from sight.

   Woolever and Ryan quickly climbed down the building with sad, morning faces, toward the others to give the bad news.
