Surviving an Apocalypse

Chapter 4:Familiar Faces

  The girls cried out in horror as their friend was hidden from sight. When all seemed hopeless, the survivors from the street hurried up the stairs to the roof and took out all the zombies surrounding Megan. "Megan!" The girls screamed as they ran over to Megan's side. "Megan no! Don't leave us!" Danielle yelled shaking Megan's arm. "Please Megan..." Abby said starting to cry. "Move out of the way! Maybe I can help her." A boy holding a rifle shouted. The girls moved and the boy moved to Megan's side with a medical bag.

    The other teenagers in the group were easily recognized. They were students from EDMS, Alex, Micheal, Jackson, Caleb, Maleah, Elizabeth, and Jasmin. But everyone's attention was to Megan, so they didn't seem to notice the others much.

   "Is she gunna make it?" Miranda asked impatiently. "I wouldn't know because someone is bothering me!" The boy replied angrily. "You don't have to be mean, she just wanted to know if Megan's alright." Maggi said defending Miranda. "Whatever." The boy replied. "Who are you anyway? I haven't seen you before." Danielle curiously asked. "My name is Sargent Ryan Mitchel, I'm with the army." The boy responded. The girls looked at each other with confusion. "The army?" Gabby asked. "Yes, the army was sent in a week ago to exterminate a deadly infection before it reached your town. But we didn't think the infection was this deadly. We failed to exterminate it and it cost me my men, my friends. There dead now and its all my fault." Ryan answered bandaging Megan's head. "Were sorry for your loss." Miranda replied. "Don't be. I'm probably going to die out here anyway." Ryan said standing up.

    "Is she gunna be okay?" Abby asked looking toward Megan. "Yeah, she just hit her head real bad. You guys are lucky I have medical training." Ryan replied. "Is she gunna wake up?" Gabby asked worried. "Maybe, but you have to remember she took a nasty blow to the head. Without proper medicine she will be in a lot of pain." Ryan answered. "You didn't happen to see if she got bit, did you?" Danielle asked. "Cause i've watched the Walking Dead  and when someone gets bit they slowly turn into a zombie." Danielle added.

    "Nobody bit her. She might have a concussion though. You know this isn't a movie. You cant play around or you might loose someone close to you, like I did. I hope you know I'm going to treat you like soldiers and not kids. So I'm not baby sittin no one. Got that?" Ryan asked. Everyone nodded.

    "OK, my group guard the building. Danielle, is it? Your group needs weapons." Ryan ordered. "We don't have any." Maggi replied. "Elizabeth, Jasmin, go to the hideout and bring some weapons back." Ryan ordered. "But what if the zombies find us first?" Jasmin asked. "Well take them out!" Ryan answered. "But..." Elizabeth started to say. "Just go!" Ryan yelled. The two went down the stairs and headed back toward the school. "Does this mean were getting weapons? As in guns?" Gabby asked excitedly. "Yep, just don't point it at us. OK?" Ryan replied smiling. "OK! I always wanted a pew pew gun! There so cool!" Gabby yelled happily. "Do you even know how to use a gun?" Alex asked. "Well I've played Halo before. How much different could it be?" Gabby replied. "I don't think Megan would want you to have a gun." Danielle said. "She really doesn't have a choice." Alex replied.

    "I'm gunna wake Megan up!" Gabby announced. "Whatever makes you happy Gabs..." Danielle answered. "Megan! Megan! Wake up!" Gabby said excitedly. "Go away mom, it's the weekend!!!!" Megan groaned. "But Megan I have a penguin." Gabby replied smiling. Megan immediately sat up. "PENGUINS? WHERE?" She asked. "Sorry no penguins, but guess what! The nice boy is gunna give us guns to kill zombies with!" Gabby answered. "What??" Megan yelled with wide eyes. "Oh Megan, your awake! That's good!" Danielle said walking over to her. "Gabby's getting a gun??" Megan asked confused. "Yeah, long story. Hows your head?" Danielle replied concerned. "My head? What happened to my head?" Megan asked even more confused. "You fell when you were trying to protect us from the zombies and a boy saved you." Danielle explained. "Ohhhhhh, I'm still confused." Megan answered. "Maybe you should rest some more. We should be moving some where else soon." Danielle replied.

    Behind Danielle and Megan, Ryan has a worried look on his face. "Where is Elizabeth and Jasmin? They should be back by now, so where are they?" Ryan asked himself. "We got zombies incoming!" Maleah yelled. "Danielle, get your team down stairs and pack a bag of food and water. And make sure you get enough for everyone." Ryan ordered. The girl's obeyed his orders and helped Megan down the stairs.

    "I found a backpack that we can use." Maggi said throwing it in the center of the main room. "All I can find for food is Twinkies." Abby said upset. "WHAT! I cant live on Twinkies! I need veggies!" Miranda yelled  upset. "Miranda, calm down and check the food closet!" Megan shouted from across the room. "I found water bottles." Gabby replied putting them in the backpack. "Well, it's better than nothing." Miranda said putind a loaf of bread in the backpack. "The Bag's full!" Gabby announced. "OK, grab the bag and go meet up with Ryan and the others, there outside. Me and Abby will help Megan." Danielle said. Miranda grabbed the bag, Gabby grabbed a spoon as a weapon and Maggi followed behind.

    "Let's go girls! Were going back to the school." Ryan yelled. "Huh? Back to the school? Isnt it covered in zombies?" Gabby asked frightened. "Well I guess were about to find out." Ryan replied.
