Lilly stepped into a large room. It had hard wood floors, a desk in the back, a couch to the left of the room, and a bed to the right of the room with a small table and a chair next to it. Doctor Bradley looked up.
"Come on in, Lilly. Our session shall begin."
"What are these sessions for?"
"They help make sure you stay the same mental stability. We need to make sure your brain is okay to go out into the real world, with real strugles without going crazy. Children who have been through trgeties such as yours have a chance of losing their mental stability, that is what these children are here for, we make sure they stay..... whats the word...... lets say..... common minded."
"I think I understand."
"Good, we shall begin."
"What am I going to do?"
"Its not hard. You have to look at these pictures and show me what you see. Every couple of weeks we will do this to make sure your mentality stable."
"Okay! I'm ready."
"What is in this picture?"
" I see a puppy trying to catch a butterfly."
"Good, good."
Lilly went through many pictures and everything she saw was happy. Doctor Bradley was pleased with her results, so she was released back to her room. As Lilly walked down the hallway, a few steps from her door she heard a voice.
"H-hi." Whispered the voice.
Lilly gasped.
"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you."
"Its okay. I'm Lilly. Whats your name?"
"I'm Shelby. Are you new here?"
"Ya actually, my room is just right there."
"Oh, you got the best one. Everyone wanted that room."
"I can see why, its beautiful. How old are you?"
"Oh, I'm 11. I'm here because my brother stole my guinea pig, StarFly, and gutted him out right in front of me."
"Oh no, I'm so sorry, your poor poor guinea pig. Where's your brother now?"
"He went to an older kids mental hospital, because he was 16. He hung himself a month ago."
"Oh my. Your such a poor kid."
"No, no, Lilly. I'm fine actually. I got over the guinea pig thing years ago and I didn't really like my brother any ways, he is really scary."
"Well, anyways, I'm 8. I'm here because a week ago, I found my parents and my favorite nanny dead in my living room."
"OH MY GOSH!!! Lilly, I'm so sorry!! That's way worse than me!!"
"Ya. Well. I have to go, I'm not done unpacking yet."
Lilly said while sobbing, Shelby gave her a hug and left. Lilly headed to her room. It still felt pretty empty, so she decided to go to the secratary and ask if she could have decorations for her room.
She walked into the hall and saw Shelby, striding down tge large corridor."Hey Shelby! Wait up!"
Shelby turned, "Oh, hi Lilly. What are you doing out here?"
"My room feels quite empty, I wanna ask for some type of decor."
"Well, 1: your vocabulary is amazing for an 8 year old. 2: I wouldn't do that if I were you."
"Why not? All I want are maybe some streamers to hang from the ceiling or some paitings on the wall."
"If you ask for streamers, they will think your trying to hang your self and put you in solitary comfinment. Its not fun."
"How do you know?"
"Because one day, I asked if I could have a hook to hang my bag on, and they said no. I asked why, they said because they knew I was gonna try to cut myself or other people. I said that was ridiculous, but they didn't believe me, and put me in solitary comfinment for 2 weeks. I just sat there, I almost actually went insane."
"Wow."
"I know, right?"
"So Shelby, why are you down here?"
"Oh, I'm just hungry. I don"t eat lunch with the rest of the kids, I think its weird. I go get lunch a few minutes early, wanna come with?"
"Sure! I would love to spend more time with you!"
"Alrighty then, lets get going."
Lilly and Shelby walked into the lunch room, Shelby showed Lilly to where the kids usually get their food. The choices were grilled cheese or spaghetti. Lilly got grilled cheese and Shelby got spaghetti. The next choices were strawberries or peaches, they both got strawberries. Next, choices between a salad or a fruit salad. Lilly got a salad, Shelby grabbed a fruit salad instead. Their final choice was between strawberry milk, almond milk, chocolate milk, and regular milk. Shelby grabbed almond milk, and Lilly got the strawberry milk. Once the girls were done grabbing their food they retreated to Shelby's room to learn more about wach other.
"So, what were you like before you found your parents?" Shelby asked, while chewing her spaghetti.
"Well, I cried alot less. I used to laugh uncontrollably for no reason. I even had a great pair of friends. I miss them so much."
"What were their names?"
"Jordon and Taylor. My best friends, now they're gone and I will possibly never see them again."
"As long as you keep a good, healthy mind, you'll see them one day. I promise."
Lilly and Shelby chatted until it was time for bed. Shelby got off her bed as Lilly walked out the door.
"Bye Shelby. This was fun."
"Ya we should totally do this again. Bye Lilly, have a good night sleep." Shelby said as she waved.
Lilly walked down to her room. Changed into some warm pajamas and drifted to sleep. In minutes, Lilly escaped reallity and into dream land.
