Chapter 8: Insane

The morning sun blinded Lilly's eyes, she had woken up to the brightest day she had ever seen. Lilly arose from her slumber, changed into some morning clothes and headed to Shelby's room. *knock* *knock* Lilly proceded.

Shelby jumped a little, she wasn't expecting any visitors.

"Come in."

"Hey Shelby. Do you know what time it is?"

"Ya, its like 7 am, why are you up so early?"

"I don't know, ever since I found my parents, I've been waking up really early."

"Wanna get an early breakfast then?"

"Sure, I could eat."

"I bet you need to use the bathroom as well, like normal people in the world."

"Oh ya, I guess I do. Would you mind directing me to the bathroom?"

"No problem, come this way."

Shelby led Lilly toward the secratary's desk, then they took a left into a small opening in the wall. There was two door in front of them, one said "Men" the other said "Women" there was also a water fountain in between 5he doors. Shelby pushed open the door marked "Women" and Lilly was met with a large room with stalls on the right side. There was also some sinks, soap, towels, and mirrors. Shelby walked into the second stall, and Lilly choose the last stall. Lilly heard some souds coming from Shelby's stall. Like the ripping of paper.

"Shelby? Are you okay? I hear weird noises coming from your stall."

"Oh Lilly, I'm fine really."

"Whats that noise then?"

"I'll tell you when we get out."

"Ok."

Lilly came out of the stall, walked toward the sink, then remembered she needed soap. Shelby walked out a couple seconds later.

"So, tell me, what were those noises? It sounded like paper ripping."

"Lilly, you wouldn't understand. Your only 8."

"Please tell me, you said you would."

"Do you know what a period is?"

"No, what is it."

"It happens every month for a week. Every girl has one, and you start it when your about my age, or maybe older. Its different for all girls."

"What happens during it?"

"You get headaches, and stomach pains. And, the reason why you heard the sound of ripping paper is because...... I was changing my pad."

"Whats a pad?"

"Its something you put in your underwear."

"Why?"

"To keep the blood from getting in your panties."

"What!? Is that what happens when your on your period!?

"Yes, don't be scared, it happens to all the girls and it doesn't harm or hurt you. It actually helps you. When your on your period, your body is getting rid of all the bad fluids inside of you."

"Okay. Lets go get some food."

"Good job on changing the subject."

Lilly and Shelby walked the rest of the way to the lunch room in silence. Once they got their, they choose their food in silence. They walked back down to Shelby's room and sat quietly on her bed. Lilly noticed that Shelby had a stuffed animal. It looked like a hippo, but she couldn't really tell because Shelby was sitting on it.
