Chapter 11
Our safe house was an old apartment in the heart of Rome. The sounds of the city were constant and the smell if genuine, Italian food lingered in the air.
It has been a day, and already I could get used to this.
Yes, I was worried about the Gallagher Academy and I pondered still on why I would be wanted as a ransom, but once we received our covers and were told to blend in with the crowd, I was some what happy.
After all, I am a chameleon. Blending is what I do best.
On the morning of the second day, Mr. Solomon took us out into town.
"Okay girls, and Zach, today I am going to test you on your skills. Macey and Bex will be in a group."
They looked at each other and grinned. They had actually gotten along well together.
"Liz and Rosie."
Those two are a pair. They were both crazy (and i say that in a very loving way).
Even before Mr. Solomon said that, I knew who my partner would be. Of course, with my luck, I would be stuck with him.
Although, I don't know if that was good luck or bad luck.
"And Zach and Cammie."
Mr. Solomon then preceded to give us a $200 dollars worth of money in Euros and dispensed us into the crowd.
"So Gallagher Girl," Zach said as we walked down the market street, crowded with people who were trying to both buy and sell goods. "What makes you the Chameleon?"
I think for this a minute. It all started when I successfully trailed my dad through the mall to find out what all my presents would be. Since then, I've had the talent of disappearing.
"Nobody notices me. I am average and I use that to my advantage."
He nods and we walk in silence for a moment.
"And what is your 'special talent, as a spy?" I ask, just for the sake of starting a conversation.
"Oh? You know. I'm charming, good-looking, and I'm so fast you didn't see me take your bracelet." He says, and waves the bracelet in front of me.
I didn't even realize I still had it on. It had literally become part of me, and without it I already felt something missing.
"Give that back, Zach." I say, and he gives me a curious look.
"Why should I, Gallagher Girl?" He says, his voice still playful, smirk still on his face.
I didn't want to tell him. That bracelet was special to me and I needed it.
"You wanna know Zach? It was the last thing my dad gave me before he left. Before he went MIA and before the CIA declared him dead."
Zach's smirk slowly left his face as I said those words and I could see him look at he bracelet and then me.
The bracelet was a silver chain, with multiple charms of keys and locks, the biggest charm being a key in the middle. I didn't know where my dad had gotten it or even why he gave it to me, but, as I told Zach, it was the last thing he gave me.
"Then let he have the honor of putting it back on you." He says.
I hesitantly give him my hand and he hooks the bracelet back around my wrist.
"It is a beautiful bracelet, for a beautiful girl." He says, and I immediately start to blush.
But before I could say anything, Bex brushed pass me and handed me a note.
