Chapter 5

After that intense and frankly terrifying Cove Ops lesson, the rest of the day was uneventful.

Or, it was until we got back into our room, book bags heavy and homework to finish. Because SHE was there.

Macey McHenry was sitting in a bed that must have been moved here during classes, the closet was full of designer, over-priced clothes, and I bet if I checked the bathroom I'd find a lot of extra make-up.

Bex was already gearing up, I could see it in her eyes, although her facial expression was blank. Liz and Rosie didn't really care; they hadn't seen the way she had acted.

Macey appeared to be working on homework, and finally looked up after we finished taking her in.

"Well, we're roommates. None of you want me here and I don't want to be here. But as long as I am here..." Macey's green eyes focused on each one of us. Her brown curly hair was pulled back in a bun. She sort of reminded me of Rosie, who also had green eyes, although Rosie's were a lot lighter, and her curly hair, though Rosie's was more...unruly.

"You can help me find out were my parents are."

"What?" Rosie said, shocked. I could see Liz making a mental lie of all the reasons NOT to do such a thing.

Bex still looked passive, but I knew her; she was shocked also, not at what Macey wanted, but that Macey had enough humility to ask.

As for myself...I could understand why she would ask. To her, we were full spies. And we somewhat were. We had been trained in a lot if fields, the only one we haven't been trained in is Cove Ops, the most important.

I shot a look at Bex, and her green eyes held my brown ones. She knew what I was going to say.

"We will." Bex said as Liz said, "Of course not!"

"There is no way we can help her! We know nothing about what happened and we are inexperienced. The CIA will take care if this and we will all be okay." Liz said, surprised at what we said.

"And even if we tried, we would get caught. Though maybe we can find some sort of strange clue no one noticed before and figure this whole mystery out, like in Scooby Doo! And then we can be like CIA hero's and everyone will look up to us..."

"Or, we can just look into it. Mr. Solomon told us to notice things, and I think this is the perfect excuse to do that." Bex interrupted Rosie, who has a talent of rambling on forever.

Macey nodded at what they said, and then looked at me. I didn't think she had ever payed any attention to me, but now she is.

"I think we should leave it to the CIA, but I don't see the danger of looking at it."

Macey smiled, and Bex grinned from ear to ear.

"Well then, I've got a plan."

Since we got to the school, my mother and I spent every Sunday night having dinner together. Dinner being the proof that my mom can't use a microwave but still. (The chef gave me an antidote in case a certain incident from the eighth grade relapsed, and when he tasted my mom's food.)

Bex had planned for me to do something I was not ready for. Sure, I was a chameleon. I was great, if I do say so myself, at tracking people and not being seen, but I didn't know if I could snoop through my mother's stuff.

Before Sunday, I spent as much time as I could preparing by reading Cove Ope books, paying a lot of attention to noticing things and examining the details.
