The Curse Of Five

Chapter 11

Eventually after so many years her husband declared he was going to get a job in the village to support the couple. 

Amber

"Okay so truth or dare?" Gale and I have been playing this alot lately to get to know each other. "Hm. Truth." I tell her. I cringe back in fear of what she might say,but I don't know her well enough to ask for a dare. "Okay,when did your powers first show up?" I have to think about this one . I don't actually remember. "Um, I think when I was 11 or 12." She nods we play this until Gale goes home at 3.

"Amber!" My mom calls from down stairs. "Coming mom!" I yell at her. I wonder what she wants now."What now?!" I yell. "I just got off the phone with gales parents,they don't want her hanging around with you." She hugs me and holds me there for a while while I cry into her. "I know,sh." My mother coos.

Why me? think to myself. She is the first friend I have ever had,and now she has to leave me too. I wipe my eyes with the sides of my fingertips. "Oh and this came in the mail for you." She hands me a small envelope about the size of my palm

I take it up to my room to open it. Inside is written "We are coming!" This sends chills up my spine. What could it be. I want so badly to be able to take it to gale's house and ask her about it but I can't.I open my window and quietly slip out making sure to pack a bag of everything I will need and some of my most valued possessions.

I run to my cave. I am so full of fear and hate and a jumble of other emotions that I can not even begin to think about that when I reach my cave I notice that my dress is all tattered and torn from running through tree branches. It is also then that I realize I forgot to put on shoes After I finish taking the pine needles and rocks from my feet and try to neaten my dress I hear a crunching in the late february snow.

"Hey I thought I would find you here.I looked in your room and you weren't there." Gale says. She too holds a little envelope.I say nothing about her looking into my room because I know that if she knocked on the door she would not be let in. "We're still friends right?" She asks me. I shrug "It's not right." She sighs we are currently playing with our powers. I make a lily pop out of the ground,she levitates it,I freeze it. We do more experiments as I listen to her talk.

"What does yours say?" I say motioning to the envelope. She takes out her letter which is again one line. it reads,"We are almost there,be prepared." I put them together in my head "We are coming;We are almost there,be prepared." So somehow someone knew we were friends or somehow we are supposed to become friends.

"Why are you all the way out here with all of that?" Gale asks me with a worried look in her eyes but only for a second she sort of hides her emotions except for happy. "I can't stay here." I take a stick at start making holes in the now and digging up the dirt. Gale just sort of nods. "If you're leaving so am I." She says standing up. "I know"I say "but the road won't be easy." She nods and smiles. "Ill go get ryan and my stuff." I stand up too and use my body to block the opening to the cave. She looks at me with confusion. "We can't tell them." I sigh. "I told you it wouldn't be easy." She sits back down so I sit down too. For a long time we sit in silence.

Just then more crunching . "We need to go now!" I hiss at her. In the distance I hear Ryan and Kourtney voices boom through the forest,slicing the silence like butter."Amber!?" Kourtney yells. Then,"Gale?!" Ryan yells then together their voices collide channeling this harmonic ringing sound through the woods."Where are you?" And then It burns. I hear Kourtneys small soft crying and ryans voice. "Its ok dont give up now. We'll find them." How long have we been here. I want so badly to run to her,to wipe away her tears and tell her. "It's okay I'm here.I'll always be here." But I can't. Because I won't be here always.
