The Curse Of Five

Chapter 2

"I curse five children born in the 21st century with special gifts" (lightning crackles)

Gale

"Wake up Gale time for breakfast!" My mother half yells from upstairs. "Morning Mom,Morning dad,Morning Everyone the fun has arrived! what's on the menu?"

I Introduce myself it's this thing i have if i start the day out positive the rest will work out fine. I have no friends, but that's ok I am the most likable girl in school and one day they might see me as a strong individual or just end up working for me!

"P.M.S.H.C.!(pancakes with maple syrup sausage hash browns and chocolate chips!)" My brother ryan yells from across the kitchen. "As I suspected! I truly,truly am a genius!" Me and my brother have a secret code sort of it's not had to catch but we take the first letter of each word and abbreviate it. we ate our breakfast (which by the way was amazing!) I play about an hour of video games with ryan. Then my mom takes her turn for an hour while me and ryan play outside with each other or with friends.Then when moms hour is up it's dad's turn. once hes done with his hour it's time for arounds then supper.

Mom turns on the t.v. to watch the news and I go to the nearby park to read on the swings. Ryan follows me. "Hey wait up I've got a better idea follow me!" I follow him to a park about 3 miles away but we walk fast and make it in 30 minutes. "Hey I don't think we should be here. I mean we can be. No we can't. what would mom say? because i mean.... Is that blood?" I babble away this place really creeps me out.

I examine my surroundings. The whole place is surrounded by yellow police tape. We had gone deep into the forest that surrounded our home in portland,Maine.It was so dark. Our hour was up soon and i had to yell at ryan to get out of there. "Ryan it's time to go mom and dad will be worried sick!" I tried everything but nothing worked not even that "Ok i'm leaving without you!" trick.

"I think i see something!" he yells I look at him he's crouching down over something i turn away. Just then it hit me I stayed inside to read during moms hour. The news talked about this landslide sinkhole thing.

"Ryan we have to leave now!" Suddenly we feel a rumble. Ryan screams and stays frozen in place. The only damage caused from this vibration is a couple of pebbles roll on the ground. But I know it won't be long before something real happens.

Not sure what to do i start to doodle. That is what i do when i'm nervous i draw what i wish would happen i doodle a bridge over to him one that doesn't connect to the ground so he'll be safe.

I try to imagine what mom would say if i came home without him to get help. Ok so that's out of the picture. I don't have my-. My thoughts are interrupted.

The ground is vibrating and dirt is falling from the rocks piled up underneath the flat land with trees on it. I go back to my thought not sure what to do i think fast. any minute now those rocks could slide burying my little brother. I leap into the air to jump on a sturdy rock and a plank of wood falls into place under my feet. " Help me Gale please I don't know how much longer I can stay here- What is that?! Where did you get it?! what's going on?!" My brother demanded

I crouch down on the plank full of fear The only thing keeping me from falling to my death was 3 inches of wood. I will say though it is a good thing this is here because as soon as i let a tear slip from my eye the rock i was going to jump on rolls into the sinkhole i at increased speeds after another vibration one that even though i'm floating through me off balance.

I get up and start to run. with each step a new piece of the bridge I drew forms. I stop to catch my breath because he ran over a little far away like about 1/8th of a mile away. But just as i stop i hear a crunching noise in the distance. It's a tree about to fall right on top of ryan and there is no way i'm letting my 9 year old brother die on my watch. I spent and grab him just in time his foot hits the tree but it will be fine at the least he sprained it at most he fractured it. When we finally return home it's supper time mom and dad have our dishes served and we don't speak the whole time that we eat.

"Where were you young lady?!" Dad pulls us aside into our room as mom takes ryan they do this to get each of our points of view we knew this would happen so we make up a storey just to cover up that bridge situation. I tell dad everything about ryan tricking us,and the sinkhole,and everything else. "I was scared but i wasn't going to let him die so i ran across the rocks to reach him i got there just in time. because a tree fell and hit his ankle. I;m sorry I take full responsibility for tonight. I'm sorry i let you down dad."

Ryan tells a similar story. We get grounded for a week. No t.v. for 3 months.

Amber talks about how we will meet it the woods everyday after school. "My next question is I know this may seem scary at first but are you ok?" That question shocked me. Amber is the last person I would expect to ask if I was ok let alone help me.

The next couple of days flew by. I shut out everyone the only person that knew was my brother and he didn't say anything. Until today. " G.C.W.T?" (Gale can we talk?) He asked me. "S.W.U." (Sure what's up.) I replied. we go into his room. "Gale I was there ok. I'm sorry." He says I'm very confused so I ask. " where were you? and why are you sorry? You didn't do anything." I half ask half demand. " I followed you home from school only you didn't go home you went to amber's." He answers. "Are you mad?" Uh what do I say now yes I associate with a girl with powers because I need help controlling mine? Not a chance. So instead I decided on this. "No Ryan I'm not mad." I leave out everything we talked about because if he was there and he's sorry he probably already knows why I was there.

"Why haven't you been going? Gale I know I'm only 9 but to be honest I've known about your powers for a long time and I've been jealous but maybe I can come to you won't be alone then and I can watch what I've always wanted magic." What he's known and I have not!? "fine but this is between me you and amber lets go." I finally decide after a few minutes of awkward silence.

"Hey mom we're going for our hour early. I'm taking Ryan with me to a friends house." I yell. "Ok but be back before supper remember last time?!" yep I do. We bike over but just as we reach the woods. "Hey Gale why didn't you just use your powers to take us there?" Hm maybe because I don't know how. just a thought. " Because I can't control it and I don't want to risk it again."

"Hey gale I thought you wouldn't show again. Who is this?" She greets us. " I'm Ryan I'm gale's brother. In other words I am the reason she's here." Yep this is going to be a long hour.

"anymore signs?" Amber asks me. She means of my powers. " No" I sigh "well let's take care of that. shut your eyes and dig deep into your mind." I do as she says. " reach in. keep going deeper you will know when you find it." I keep doing what I'm told I feel like a dog digging for scraps. "Find wh-" I've found it I looks like a brilliant gold shining flower with golden yellow ribbon stretching out everywhere coiling around it. I reach for it and it's warm and heavy. How is this even possible It's all in my head. "It's just a glimpse. Go on hold on to it, protect it. This is where your powers are stored don't let anyone take it."

I memorize the feel the colors and the movement. "Whoa-" Ryan starts "shhh don't disturb her if she loses concentration she could lose the glimpse or how to get there." Everyone is silent.

I feel the magic wrapping around my spine winding through my ribs,and stretching throughout my body. At long last I feel it my body is lifted from the ground and a wave of some force washes over me before I am gently put back down.

"How did you do that?!" Ryan and Amber demand. "It took me months to do what you have just done." Amber adds with pure astonishment. "what exactly did I do?" I etch my name in a tree so I will always remember this was the spot. " You've harness your powers. here draw a flower in the middle of this opening." I do. "thats strange." Nothing happens.
