Expectation:

You grab a razor. This is your first time. You glide it over your wrist. It makes a clean cut. You watch as your blood falls to the ground. It didn't hurt. In fact, it took your pain away.

You don't feel them the next day. You only feel them when their not there. That seem to be apart of you now.

Reality:

You couldn't find a razor, so you stole one of your dads box cutters or pocket knives. This is your first time. You glide it over your wrist. You don't go deep enough to draw blood, but it hurts as hell. Why do people do this? But you continue to it, mostly because it takes you mind off of things. You make a couple of invisible lines then decide to call it quits.

It stings all night and the next day. Yes, there are lines, but you feel ashamed that they are there. If people saw them, they would jump to conclusions.
