Star Trek (Sulu): Friends or More?

Sulu sat at his station, he had one thing on his mind. (Y/n). The two were best friends and Sulu had begun to think about her differently than normal. To him, (Y/n) was more than a friend. He had been thinking like this for the past few months. He had begun to see things about her that just a friend would never notice. He thought of her as beautiful, and he didn't know weather or not if he told her if it would ruin the perfect friendship that the two already shared. A thousand questions ran through his head, what would happen if he did tell her? What were the chances that she felt the same way? What if it ruined the friendship? What if she didn't feel the same? Sulu was lost in thought, he didn't hear the woman in question walk up behind him. Soon enough, he felt two hands cover his eyes, he blushed a bit as he felt a pair of lips by his ear,
"Guess who!"
"(Y/n)?"
"Ding ding ding! Correct"
Sulu smiled as the hands were removed, he turned around to see a his smiling best friend. His eyes shifted over to the captain, who was smirking at the scene in front of him. What Sulu didn't know was that (Y/n) was also hiding a secret from him. She also thought of him as more than a friend. She also didn't want to ruin the friendship that the duo shared. Captain Kirk saw what was going on and decided he would be the matchmaker.
"Miss (Y/n)?"
"Yes captain?"
"May I speak with you in private?"
"Of course"
They walked outside,
"How do you feel about Sulu?"
"He is my best friend, and he is a good friend as well"
"I mean how do you feel about him romantically?"
"Well... He... Promise you won't tell anyone?"
"You have my word"
"I think I'm in love with him"
"OH MY GOSH I TOTALLY KNEW IT!!!"
"JAMES T. KIRK DON'T YOU DARE TELL ANYONE!!!"
"I won't go against my promise, but I will have a little chat with our dear Mr. Sulu"
"Kirk I swear I am going to kill you if he finds out"
"He won't even suspect a thing"
With that Kirk reentered the bridge and sat in his chair, leaving (Y/n) in the hall stunned. (Y/n) walked back to her room since she had her break and sat down at her desk. She pulled out her daily log (diary) that she was keeping for when she got back home, she wrote,

Dear Me,
I just told the captain that I am in love with my best friend! Now I think that he is going to tell Hikaru and right now I really want to die. Please help me live through the next few years of awkwardness with Hikaru. If

(Y/n)'s writing was interrupted when she heard someone at the door. She walked over to the door and opened it. The person on the other side was someone that she did not want to see for a long time. Hikaru Sulu. He smiled brightly at her,
"May I come in (Y/n)?"
"Yeah sure"
She stepped aside to allow Sulu to enter. (Y/n) walked back over to her desk, shut her diary, and put it away. Sulu took his spot on her bed and waited. (Y/n) sat down in her usual place next to him. She figured he wasn't acting any different, so she wasn't going to act any different. Though, Sulu had his own little conversation with the captain. Kirk had kept his work to (Y/n) and didn't tell Sulu about her 'small' crush on him. He just made Sulu confess his feelings for (Y/n). After he did, the smirking captain let Sulu go on his break. Sulu always  got his break at the same time as (Y/n), Kirk made sure of that. Sulu wondered why that was, did Kirk see something that he did not? Sulu slung his arm around (Y/n)'s shoulder, this was a normal thing for the two of them to do. This time it was different though. (Y/n) blusshed a little bit when his arm made contact with her shoulder. She rested her head on his shoulder, making Sulu blush as well. The awkwardness didn't stop there though, neither of them was wiling to break the silence that surrounded them. Sulu was gathering every ounce of courage that he had, this was a now or never situation. He took a deep breath and started to speak,
"(Y/n)?"
"Yeah?"
"I realized something over the last few months"
"And what's that?"
"I-... I love you (Y/n). Not in the friendly way that we say all the time, I love you, I'm in love with you. I decided that today is that day to tell you, I can't hide it anymore."
There was a moment of silence, Sulu thought of it as rejection, he began to pull his arm away,
"I love you too"
"Really?"
"Really. Um... Did the captain go and talk to you too?"
"Yeah, why?"
"What did he talk to you about?"
"He made me confess that I loved you, and when I told him, he told me that I need to run with it and just tell you... What did he talk to you about?"
"He also made me confess my feelings for you... I made him promise not to tell you though, I didn't was you to find out, because if you didn't feel the same, it would ruin our friendship and I like the way our friendship works."
"I like our friendship too. I was scared it would end too if I told you"
"We should mess with the captain a little bit before we thank him for technically setting us up."
"Lets"

For the next few days, (Y/n) and Sulu would act like normal friends still, but a little more intimate. They would hug for longer, and (Y/n) would kiss Sulu's cheek. Both of those things were normal occurrences for the two and nobody thought anything of it, other than Kirk. The captain was confused about the two of them. They were acting a tiny bit differently, and he was extremely confused about weather or not the two were actually a couple. This went on for some time, before Kirk had had enough. He voiced through the ship,
"I need (L/n) and Sulu to med-bay, I repeat, (L/n) and Sulu to med-bay"
Kirk walked down to med-bay and awaited the two to come. When the two came, they had a look of worry and shock on their face. They saw Kirk sitting on one of the benches. They walked over wondering what had happened to the captain.
"Oh, good you're here"
"What's wrong captain? Why are you in med-bay?"
"Oh, there isn't anything wrong with me, I'm here to talk to you about your relationship... I'm DYING to know, ARE YOU DATING OR NOT!?"
(Y/n) and Sulu burst out laughing. Kirk looked at them with a curious look on his face.
"WHAT IS GOING ON? I'M SO CONFUSED!! WILL YOU JUST ANSWER MY QUESTION??"
"Yes we are, and we want to know what took you so long to ask?"
"YOU MEAN YOU STARTED DATING AND YOU DIDN'T TELL ME??"
"Yeah, we decided that since you set us up, that we wouldn't tell you that we got together. We wanted to see how long it would take you to ask us about it"
"You two... ARE SERIOUSLY MESSING WITH MY HEAD! SERIOUSLY HOW COME YOU DIDN'T TELL ME RIGHT AWAY? I SET YOU GUYS UP!"
"Exactly you set us up"
"YOU AREN'T EVEN MAKING ANY SENSE!"
In that moment, Bones burst into the room.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU YELLING ABOUT IN HERE? I HAVE OTHER PATIENTS IN THE OTHER ROOM AND THEY ARE WONDERING WHY THE CAPTAIN IS YELLING RANDOM THINGS OUT AT NOBODY? DAMN IT JIM!"
"I-I... bye"
Jim ran from the room, leaving a laughing doctor and a very confused Sulu and (Y/n).
