"So which way to the beach?" Ashton asks me as we start walking down the street. It was a beautiful day here in Australia, especially for a walk around the town and a beach day.
"It's not too far actually, we'll just make a few lefts and a few rights," I inform him and he laughs.
"I love being outside. It's so beautiful," he says looking up at the sky.
"Why are you wearing jeans?" I laugh, ignoring his previous comment.
"I hate shorts and the only thing that fit me was jeans," he chuckles.
"We should go buy you some new clothes, your own clothes."
"I don't have any money," he sighs.
"Don't worry, Ashton I'll buy you some. I got my paycheck yesterday so I can afford it. Let's go," I smile and take his hand, leading us to the closest clothing store.
We arrive at the small thrift shop and I start throwing a bunch of clothes at him to try on. T shirts, shorts, jeans, shoes, tank tops anything really.
"Come show me the ones that fit you if you like them," I tell him through the dressing room door.
He comes out a few seconds later in a shirt and black jeans.
"I like it," I smile at him.
"Me too! I'm really comfortable in this. I'll just buy a bunch of jeans and t shirts. Is that ok? I mean I know it's hot but I won't be going out a lot, I don't think."
"Yeah! That's perfect! Let's go pick out some others in your size," I tell him as I grab a shopping basket and start throwing things in.
"Ashton? Ashton Irwin? Is that you?" I hear someone say and as I turn around I see a guy about Ashton's age.
"Uh yeah it's me. H-hi Andy," he stutters. I walk up next to Ashton and grab his hand trying to comfort him.
"They really let you out? I didn't think it was true, but here you are," Andy scoffs.
"Yeah. I got a lot better," Ashton informs him.
"Sure you did," Andy rolls his eyes.
"He really did," I but in, "I am one of the therapists at the asylum and I can assure you, Ashton is a lot better."
"He better be. He should've gotten jail for life for killing my brother," I just look at Andy after he says this. I was in shock.
"I'm sorry. I really am," Ashton says looking down at the ground.
"Whatever. I've gotten over it. Just stay away from me and the rest of my family. Ok?"
"Will do."
After Andy left the thrift shop I paid for all of Ashton's clothes and we left the store.
"I'm sorry you had to see that," he tells me.
"Oh Ashton don't be sorry. Really there is nothing to be sorry for."
"I just feel bad. I mean when you hang around me you have to deal with that. I lived here my whole life, people are going to see me and either run or approach me and be rude. I don't know if I can deal with that and I don't want you to see something you shouldn't."
I sigh, "everything with be ok, Ash. I promise you. These past 3 months have been tough for me, really tough and I don't even know why. Everybody has a dark side and it's ok if that has to be shown sometimes. Nobody is perfect."
"Thank you, Heather. You're great. You know that?"
"I get told that sometimes," I joke and laugh.
"Let's go to the beach," Ashton says as he hold my hand and I lead us to the beach.
---
"It's so pretty," Ashton says as he gazes up at the sky.
"It really is. It's my favorite thing. Sometimes I come out here to just relax when I feel stressed, which is a lot lately," I respond, "I just go and sit near the small cove and watch the waves crash and it's just so peaceful."
"Take me there," he states.
"What?"
"Take me to the cove," he stands up brushing the sand off his pants and helps me up.
We walk to the cove and by the time we get there the sun was starting to set.
"Shit. What time is it?" I ask.
"Uh like 6:30. Why?" Ashton responds.
"Shit shit shit," I put my head in my hands.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"I have to take my pills at 5:30. Oh my gosh I bet Calum's freaking out right now!"
"Hey calm down. It'll be ok," Ashton tries to calm me.
"No it won't Ashton!! I have to take my pills everyday at 5:30! They have to be 12 hours apart!! Do you not understand that?!?"
"I-I'm sorry," he sighs.
"No I'm sorry. Wow that was terrible of me. We really need to get home. I need to take my pills I have to," I say as I start to leave the cove.
"Heather wait," Ashton says.
"What?" I sigh.
"Come here. Please. Just for one second," he begs.
I walk over to him to see what he wants.
"Look," he points at the sky smiling wide, "it's pink! It's been so long since I've seen the sky be pink."
I look over at him and just watch him as he watches the sky, a small smile planted on his lips. Looking at him calms me down. I was becoming less and less worried about my pills by the second.
He turns his head to look at me and smiles bigger when he sees I was staring at him.
"You're so beautiful," he tells me, his voice barely audible, as he pushes a strand of hair behind my ear.
I smile and start to lean in to kiss him. As our lips touch it's like nothing else matters. It's just us, literally, there was no one else around expect us. His lips were so soft and warm and I felt like I could kiss him forever. I feel him smile into the kiss and so do I, a few seconds later I pull away.
"Come on," I giggle,"I have to go take my pills."
I grab his hand and as we head back to my apartment all I can think about is him.
