Snap, I shot straight up sitting up in my bed. I slowly allowed my wolf to half come through, heightening my senses. Crunch, there was definitely someone outside my room. “Shh! You are going to wake her up,” a female voice hissed coming directly from below my window. Carefully I swung my legs to the side of my bed and pulled on my slippers. I stood slowly then cautiously made my way to the window. I pulled back the curtain and gasped in shock. Staring back at me through the glass was a pair of warm brown eyes, very familiar eyes. I screamed, so did the owner of the eyes. Then the eyes disappeared. Seconds later there was a very loud thud. Frowning I pushed open the window.

“Is anyone out there?” I called before mentally face palming myself, no one is going to answer that. “MARCO!” I yelled loud enough so anyone outside could hear me.

“POLO!” another voice shouted back.

“OW!...oh sorry,” I frowned in confusion there was definitely someone outside.

Deciding I should investigate. I quickly ran into my cupboard and got changed, I am not coming up against potential attackers in nothing but my pyjamas. Hopping around on one foot I pulled on my combat boots and made my way down the eerie corridor. I always hate leaving my room at night because everything is just so dark, yes that is my reason for hating it, because it is dark.

I jumped down the stairs. Literally, I stood at the top of the stairs and launched myself to the bottom. I landed gracefully, on my bum. Mumbling curses I pulled myself up off the carpeted floor and walked through the house and out the back door. Using my wolf senses I followed the hushed voices.

“What do you mean this is my fault?” a voice whisper-shouted.

“Well for one thing you are the idiot who fell off a ladder.” Another voice pointed out. Well that explains the thump. “AND THAT MAKES IT-“ an incredibly loud voice shouted before being cut off by a wave of shushes. “Oh shush yourself we’ve made loads of no noise and no one has woken up yet!” the same girl said in a normal tone. “Actually I’m awake,” I said stepping into their view.

I quickly identified two of the girls as Emmerson and Nadia, her friend. However the third girl I didn’t recognise, though there was a little voice in the back of my head screaming out that I did. “Well, hey?” the third girl said. That voice I had heard it before tonight. I looked at the girl. She had dark black hair, much like Caitlin’s, and warm brown eyes. With a slim build, she was shorter than the other two. Closer to Billee’s height, and she looked younger. That’s when it clicked. “Regan?” I asked unsurely, because Regan was dead. There was no chance that this girl is Regan. But she nodded, slowly as if she didn’t know why I knew her. “But, your dead?” I said though it came out more as a question.

She frowned. “Dead?” I nodded. I couldn’t help it. I flung myself at her, hugging her tightly. Just seeing her alive made me so happy, even if she was with Emmerson.  I felt a small tear track down my cheek and realised I was crying. “CAITLIN!” I suddenly yelled. Emmerson and Nadia immediately went on alert. While Regan’s face simply held sheer confusion.

Caitlin, outside now! I yelled in her head using our pack mindlink. A string of curses followed ending with ‘five more minutes – or an hour’. I don’t care if you are sleeping you need to see this. I snapped losing my patience fast. Fine she grumbled. I smirked to myself.

I tapped my foot impatiently while I waited for Caitlin to show up. I was still holding Regan and Emmerson and Nadia were watching me warily. Finally Caitlin made her appearance.  “You better have an excuse for waking me up at such an ungodly hour, because you should know you are currently number two on my death list.” Caitlin grumbled rubbing her eyes.

“Holy flying bacon!” She shouted pointing at Regan. When Caitlin is surprised while tired she generally makes large references to the holy bible of food. “Yes this is Regan, more importantly why am I only number two on the death list? What did I do to deserve being second?” I questioned pretending to be disinterested with the fact that her supposedly dead sister was still awkwardly hugging me.

“If you don’t let go of her you will be number one,” she growled through clenched teeth. I smiled at her and very slowly let go of a baffled Regan.  “What the hell is going on here?” Emmerson snapped. I smiled and turned to her, “I could ask the same of you. Why are you in our pack’s territory anyway? More to the point why were you trying to get into my room?” I asked.

She huffed in annoyance, such a helpful answer. I looked over to where Caitlin was explaining things to Regan. She didn’t seem to be taking it too well. “No! I am not related to a Crescent Moon!” she snapped wriggling out of Caitlin’s bear hug.

“Actually yes you are, those idiots,” I pointed to Emmerson and Nadia, who didn’t look too pleased with being called an idiot.  “Kidnapped you, when you were little, we thought you were dead.” I explained not moving. Regan nodded slowly, looking between me and Emmerson. “Emmerson, is that true?” she asked quietly. Emmerson nodded. “WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?” she yelled, tears starting to track down her freckled face. “You lied to me,” she whispered. Emmerson just watched her, no emotion playing on her face, her green eyes hard and cold.

“I CAN’T BELIEVE YOU WOULD DO SUCH A THING!” Regan said accusingly. Emmerson just watched Regan break down before her.  It occurred to me at this moment that my pack really does have terrible security. We have been shouting for the past ten minutes and no one has come to check. I will have to talk to Dad about that.

“All this time I asked you about my family, you said they were dead. I lived for the past thirteen years of my life wondering what it was like to have a family, and I actually had one?” she was ranting in pure anger now. If it was me in that situation Emmerson wouldn’t still be standing unharmed. “I HATE YOU!” she finished before running away from us, shifting into a small black wolf, much like Caitlin’s, as she ran.

Emmerson watched her go, saying nothing. Nadia looked upset, unshed tears welled in her bluey eyes and her cheeks were flushed red. “I didn’t know you did that,” Nadia whispered. As much as I am enjoying seeing Nadia upset, I still don’t know why they were here in the first place. “Hate to break the moment, but,” I butted in, dragging out the but. “You are still on my territory and I am going to be forced to send you off it.” Emmerson smirked and crossed her arms, staring at me and still pyjama clad Caitlin in disdain.  “And just how do you plan on doing that?” she sneered.

Lunging at her I tackled her to the ground. She gasped as all the wind flew out of her. I heard the sound of a fist connecting with skin followed by a sickening crunch, Caitlin has Nadia under control then. I pinned Emmerson’s arms above her head. “Why are you here?” I asked. She growled, but otherwise didn’t answer. I lifted her head up and slammed it back into the compacted earth. “Why are you here?” I repeated. Again she refused. I snarl and slammed her head back into the dirt. “Tell me.” I spat out.

“You have something of mine,” she said slyly. Then she rolled us over so she was on top. Sending a punch to my solar plexus she efficiently silenced me. Then she stood and grabbed Nadia by the collar and dragged her away from her fight with Caitlin. Caitlin threw another punch into the air before she realised that her opponent was no longer a problem.

I sighed and patted Caitlin on the back. “I’m going to try and get a bit more sleep, I tell you about it in the morning.” She nodded and we both walked back through the back door, reminding my tired brain that I need to get more guards stationed.
