Chapter 6:
(Daniel's POV)
As we were talking about our general lives and laughing over the weirdest things, she picks up her bag after she puts down her glass.
"Well this has been nice" she commented putting her backpack on. We both stood up at the same time and something we could help but do was hug it out, and even though we don't really know each other it felt natural like we had known each other for years.
"We will do this again" I said not letting go of each other. After a moment, we let go of each other before she left. I walked away outside and saw she was standing near the curb looking clueless of where to go. I went to stand next to her to see what she was up to because she looked so clueless, she wasn't attempting to get a cab which made her head to turn to me.
"Do you not want a cab?" I asked making her laugh.
"I'm not sure yet" she replied looking straight into my eyes as I figited.
"What are you waiting for if you don't mind me asking?" I wondered putting my hands in the back pockets of my jeans.
"I'm not sure" She said giggling to herself. I looked around to see what she was looking at taking it in as a moment.
"Do you ever just look around and take the city in as a moment?" She commented looking around with me.
"Every chance I get" I said louder than i expected just coming out before I could even think of what I was saying. I turned to see her reaction and she was staring at me with that grin that got me through out our conversation from inside.
"Do you have to be anywhere anytime soon?" she asked. I looked at my watch for no reason before answering.
"Not to think of" I responded smiling. She walked past me in insinuating for me to follow her, which I did.
"Then i'm going to show you the place to have a moment in this city." She said as I caught up with her following her to wherever we were going.
"And where might that be?" I asked trying to look at both where I was walking and Charlie. I saw her smirk grow bigger a waited at a traffic light.
"The best place in town" She commented before she walked across the road. I rolled my eyes loving her reply, how to keep a guy on his toes. As we were walking, she started up general chit-chat so it wasn't just silence.
"So where did you go on tour with the Army?" she asked somehow knowing that I am in the Army, something I didn't bring up in our earlier conversation.
"How did you know I was in the Army?" I asked out of curiosity.
"When we first met at the airport, you were in an Army Uniform. It was either the Army or a male stripper" She answered making me laugh once again.
"I was originally in Afghanistan but I got moved to Iraq " I explained which she actually seemed interested in. When i'm with Lara, it's like I can't talk about anything to do with my work otherwise it causes an argument or it gets awkward. But I now know that our relationship isn't working anymore and I need to sit her down and talk to her about ending things between us. I shaked my head out of my thoughts and back into the present with Charlie who had noticed I was somewhere else in my head.
"Flashbacks?" she asked looking a little concerned.
"Not exactly." I replied smiling to show I was okay. After I said this, she stopped in the literal center of the city. I looked around to see all the cars around us pass as the tall buildings along with the small ones merged together. The noise of people talking, distance music and cars rushing past added to the scenery as I took it in. She was right, this was the best place for a moment. I turned to face her to see she was looking on my reaction.
"This is-" I said trying to think of the best word to describe it before she cut in taking the exact one I thought.
"Crazy. Yeah" She stated looking around breathing it all in.
"How did you find this place?" I asked out of curiosity.
"I got caught up in some mess a while back and found myself here" She explained as i admired her features. She looked lighter in this place, she really did look stunning here at this moment.
"You don't really talk about your past much" I stated referring to our conversation not so long ago.
"There's not much to talk about" She said trying to push the subject to the side, but i know there's a deeper meaning to this. She got out her phone before looking shocked as a familiar voice started calling out a name in our direction catching our attention.
"Daisy!" He shouted making me recognize him, it was my old best mate from my High School coming our direction.
"Paul?" I shouted back to see if he saw me.
"Dan?" He answered noticing me. I turned to Charlie who looked incredibly uncomfortable to the point of panicking as she looked at her phone.
"Look I need to go but i'll catch up with you soon okay?"She said in a rush collecting herself together before attempting to run off, I ran after her catching up to her.
"What? Why?" I asked noticing tears fall onto her cheeks as I stopped her. I took a step closer towards her and saw she was shaking.
"What just happened?" I asked putting my hands on her arms to try and calm her down but she started shaking out of it to try get out of my grasp.
"Daisy!" Paul shouted which made her worse.
"I've got to go, it's my mum. I've ... I've got to go" She stuttered before pegging it away from me just as Paul caught up with me.
"Why did you let her go?" He asked sounding pissed.
"What's it to you?" I asked weirded out that he seemed so bothered. I saw him kick himself theoretically looking annoyed in himself.
"That's the Daisy I was telling you about a while back, I've been looking for her for the past two days here." He explained exasperated. I was so confused, Why was he calling Charlie Daisy?
"No ... that's Charlie" I said.
