My state of being "loosened up" and "relaxed" was rather short lived. I rode that high happy wave out for the weekend and then slowly drifted back down to my normal anxious state. It's tiresome, really.
David and I are set to go see my dad tomorrow, and spend a few days there. Hopefully no more than three. In preparation, David has asked to go swimming. Of course.
Thankfully, my mother doesn't trust me to take him by myself after the incident. So, we've stuck to ice cream in the park. I'm trusted enough with that, at least. It's exceptionally hot outside today, so I threw on some shorts and a tank top with my beat up converse.
We stand in an ice cream line- full of people that had the same idea as we did-that winds around the corner of the block. There's three girls running around in there, in a frenzy trying to keep up with their constant stream of orders.
After about ten minutes of standing and tapping my foot, it's finally our turn. I let David order on his own, because he says that it looks bad if I do it for him. I go, then we wait some more.
David got mint chocolate chip and I got moose tracks, my favorite.
My little brother eats his ice cream happily as we stroll down the sidewalk in the direction of the city park.
David kind of reminds me of Harry. In some aspects. People pass by, and when anyone, young or old, looks at him he says hello and waves. I guess it's the sociability. I find it funny because I avoid eye contact and look away.
Harry and I have been texting back and forth all morning and afternoon. How our day has been, what we ate for breakfast, our plans for the day, the like. I tell him about our trip to the park. He asks if it's okay that he meets us there. I, of course, ask David's permission and he loudly says yes Harry can come. I smile.
We finally make it to the park by the time we finish our ice cream, which was melting all over our hands . I wipe my forehead of sweat and sigh. The air is thick today. Maybe I'll get some kind of tan. Or maybe I'll burn just like every other time I enter sunlight. I should become a certified vampire...
We trace the outskirts of the park, and go into the trail in the woods. We look around, watching the squirrels and other small animals scamper across our path. My phone rings and I see Harry calling.
"Hellooo?"
"Helloooo! Where are you guys? I don't see you on our bench..."
My heart flutters. "Oh, we went down the trail. We'll be waiting down here. Hurry up, young man." I grin.
"Fiiiine. See you soon."
I wait until he hangs up after a few seconds of silence and we sit on a rock near the entrance.
"Rob, we should hide." David has an excited look plastered to his face as he looks up at me.
"Good idea..." We stand up and I tell him to hide, but where I can see him. I jump behind a tree and David behind a big rock nearby.
I hear footsteps crunching down the gravel and dirt trail and a smile creeps in. David whips his head my way and I press a finger to my lips. Harry looks around and whistles. I text him.
