Thanksgiving special!

Auggies POV:
"Bye mom and dad!" Chris and I screamed, waving. My parents were going on a stupid cruise without us for Thanksgiving. Agian. After our Grandparents died, our parents figured we didn't need a big Thanksgiving. So they went off on a cruise last year and left me and Chris. We almost burned the house down. Let's just say Chris and I are not the best cooks. Our parents tried to get us tickets this year, but they just couldn't afford it. Chris and I, being the nice children we are, told them they could go. So they did without another thought. So, agian, Chris and I were alone at home for Thanksgiving. I was the first to turn away after my parents left. There was two days before Thanksgiving and we didn't even have a turkey. I pretty much decided were having takeout. Well it's better than almost dying trying to make a freakin' turkey.

Thanksgiving day:
I woke up to the smell of cinnamon buns and slowly lifted myself up. I went to open my door and it was..... Locked? I didn't even know my door had a lock! I began pounding on the door, calling Chris. No reply. Great. I began doing whatever homework I had left and by the time I was finished, it was only 12:30. Lunchtime. Boy,was I hungry. I began to stress eat all my old Halloween candy from Josh's party. It was mostly stale, but good nonetheless.

Later that evening:
It was now 3:00 and I felt sick from the candy. I tried the door. No luck. I looked at my window. I was on the top floor. Maybe I could make it. I opened the window and felt a rush of cold air. Great. If I fell, I'd be cold and dead. I carefully swung my legs over the windowsill. As I was about to fling myself off the window and try to land on our crappy trampoline without breaking my neck, I heard my name. I turned my head and saw Josh, Hannah, and Beth. They were looking at me like I was trying to kill myself or something. My first thought was to be angry, but then I was hit with the amazing smell of an actual Thanksgiving meal. I completely ignored them and walked out to see all of our friends sitting down around our house. They all looked at me. "Suprise?" Mike said, looking at Chris. I was so angry at him. "I was freaking starving Chris! What the hell?!" I screamed. He looked at me sheepishly. "S-sorry I didn't know cooking all this food would take so long." He said. I groaned. "Just give me a plate of food." I mumbled. I was handed a plate with all of the good stuff. Ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, and stuffing. I stuffed my face. "So, why aren't you guys with your families?" I asked, between a mouthful of food. "My mom and dad are at my dads movie premier." Josh said. Hannah and Beth nodded. "My parents are at my moms parents house." Jess said. "My parents are on some 'romantic' Thanksgiving getaway." Mike said, pretending to throw up. I laughed. "My parents had all of their work friends and I couldn't stand it so I left." Emily said, rolling her eyes. "My family is visiting my grandma in the hospital and I don't like seeing her like that so I came here to help instead." Matt said, looking at the ground. I knew how he felt. "My parents are camping up in Yellowstone. I wish I could've gone." Sam said, smiling sadly. "My grandparents kept asking me questions about my 'future' and it was really akward, so I left." Ashley said. I smiled. "Thanks guys. I'm glad you're here even if my parents aren't." I smiled. Then it hit me. My parents weren't the real family. My friends are my family. We spent the rest of the day talking about family and what we were thankful for. At the end of the night, I went outside while my friends were having a discussion on condoms. The night air was cool and a few small flakes of snow were just beginning to float steadily from the sky. I took a sip of my Diet Coke and closed my eyes. I heard my front door open and close. "Hey Auggie." I heard Josh say, standing next to me. I opened my eyes and turned to him. "Hey Josh?" I said in a quiet whisper. "Yeah Auggie?" He replied. "Kiss me." I said. I didn't know why but I felt confident. He smiled and we locked lips for a moment. We both pulled away and smiled. And that's how I got my first kiss.
