~Chapter Four~

That night we all switched into our human forms for an hour, then switched back, ready for our escape. And let me tell you, it was the weirdest thing to be a human on the INSIDE of an animal exhibit. You can't say you feel like a prisoner unless you spend an hour or more in one of those things.

I was in my tiger form when we were caught, so I was shoved in with the other real tigers. They gave me the weirdest looks ever, but luckily they left me alone even in human form. Probably since they could still smell an alien-type form of tiger on me. And....maybe I scared them off a bit as I whispered, "Here kitty, kitty, kitty. Good kitty, yes. Okay fine back away, whatever."

We all decided to shift back at 10:00 so we could talk again. Hey guys. I said, using the telepathic communication.

Hey.

Hi.

Here!

Guys, can we get out of here now?!

Everyone started talking at once. It would usually give a person a headache, but I was used to it by now I guess.

Okay guys, we gonna get outta here tonight or we gonna get outta here tonight?!

I tried pepping them up out of their blues, because tonight we needed to get our heads together and push feelings aside for later. We had one chance and one chance only unless we wanted to cause a life-threatening rampage or become zoo prisoners the rest of our lives.

I'd say we're ready to roll, Sarah piped up, finally talking-well, mentally talking-for the first time since we've been caught.

Good. Leah, Becca, Sarah. Kat said your aviaries are open-topped, but earlier she mentioned to me that there's some mesh so the birds don't leave the zoo. You guys remember your report from a while ago, right? The world's smallest bird?

I hoped silently to myself that they each had studied the Mellisuga Helenae so they could properly shift into one.

Yeah, the bee hummingbird, right? We actually just finished studying that last week, we've shifted into it before. Think it's small enough to get through the mesh?

Asked Becca. The voice of Kat filled our heads, answering Becca.

I don't think they've had any really small birds in the aviary, because they put the younger ones in a nursery with a roof. I don't think they ever thought to make the mesh small enough so even a normal hummingbird could get out.

Then this is great! Guys, shift into the form now, fly around a bit and get used to the senses before we start.

I waited patiently as they shifted. The one good thing about our shifting, is that we keep our clothes if they're tight enough. Even loose skinny jeans stay on. It's handy if we ever need to change back in a public place.

Realizing just how much the stress of the day caught up to me, I sighed and closed my eyes for a few minutes. After about ten minutes and feeling slightly more rested, I decided to start making a plan with everyone.
